Ok, just to let you know - Brian is hoping to address issues.
Currently his first priority is the site speed, which he is trying to rectify first.
Then he will go through the other issues on the site
Above all... we are working on the issues, it is just unfortunate that the unanticipated site performance issues that have been experienced have absorbed the tech resources to the point where their ability to address the other concerns raised has been reduced.

I agree that this a great site and I spend a great deal of time researching and learning from each of you. I can tell you that our Administrators are unrelenting in their pursuit of excellence for this site.
Believe me, the admins and moderators at CF have been just as frustrated by these issues.
The communication is nice....In my business (caskets ) we take care of the dead a whole lot quicker than these guys at Internet Brands work. It really is a shame that so few take genuine pride in their work....very sad to see the finest auto forum on the web sinking to this level. Our cars are performance oriented, these techs are not. As many have asked before me, why is this the only site that has been like this for what seems like weeks? Ponied up for a lifetime membership this year and what a reward this is These guys should bury their dead (this software program) and resurrect the old dependable one. Progress , this isn't. Disgusting, it is.

Interesting point....However, they aso did the same "upgrade" to the LS1 Tech forum.....WITH THE SAME RESULTS!

The performance problems we've had this week are unrelated to the software upgrade to vBulletin v.3.7. Instead, my understanding is that it was simultaneous issues on some hardware, software and the database, making it all the more difficult to pinpoint "the issue." So, the impact was the same this week at LS1Tech becaue of the problems at the servers. Their software upgrade and search function upgrade was made months ago.
I don't have any personal expertise on how computers work or how embalming works, so am not in a position to make a correlation.
Savewave, I appreciate your answer. I'll readily admit that I'm not all that computer savvy. BUT, the LS1Tech's "My Recent Topics" feature is having similar issues...Honest. I'm not trying to flame!!
I was wondering if someone who was working on the problem might be able to fill us guys in "who are a little more tech savy" as to what the problem is. Normal IT practice is you don't just "upgrade" your main server. You have a backup server that you "upgrade" first so that if you do run into issues, they are kept local for the IT dept to trace and fix first. You then would publish the new fully operational server to the outside world to use and thus have no downtime. This also works exceptionally well when you have a major problem and can go back to your backup working server so you have no downtime.
I can't believe corvetteforum only has one dedicated server and that they would "upgrade" it without performing fully functional tests first? Although that is the way it may appear? I love the corvetteforum and have been here since the beginning when Troy and Ryan first started it all. I hate to say it, but as things have gotten more complicated the forum seems to have suffered. Might be a sound investment for the forum to hire a few more IT people.
I hope all goes better soon and wish the people working on the problems all the best of luck. I have been there, done that.

System performance - Wed. update
Update: We've notified the tech staff that we again are experiencing performance issues. We haven't heard back, so don't know if this is the same problem as in previous days or a different one.
Took 9 hours for me to get into these forums today. Hour after hour...

Somebody posted a statement that other IB-owned forums were having similar problems and that the upgrade to this version of vBulletin was not the real issue.
It certainly sounds like the current issues are due to more than one particular area. Load balancing, the database, and the servers may all be issues together and a problem in one area affects the oters.
I would assume that the tech staff at IB, or at least those that are responsible for maintenance on production systems like the various IB Forums have to share their time between those forums where problems exist.
Maybe a couple more techs would help for the CF, but that is matter for IB to decide.
The tech folks are probably being pushed hard to resolve all of the problems. I spent enough time in the IT world in a production environment to know that they are spending a bunch of time on resolving all of this.
I'm just going to sit back and wait for the solution. There is no point to bitching and griping, as by now I'm sure the Admins, the Mods, and the IB tech guys have heard it all.
Now here's a new one out of the blue. Trying to get at one I saved in my recent topics yesterday and this is the message I get >
Bugaboo, you do not have permission to access this page. This could be due to one of several reasons:
Your user account may not have sufficient privileges to access this page. Are you trying to edit someone else's post, access administrative features or some other privileged system?
If you are trying to post, the administrator may have disabled your account, or it may be awaiting activation.

That's what I've been thinkin' ...

It's one of a variety of error messages all of us have been getting off and on for the past week. At this point, I'm sure the tech team is aware of it.
It's not that simple. IB needed to migrate the sites they bought into a standard data centre and take advantage of an economy of scale on the hardware. Otherwise they're stuck with *huge* bandwidth costs.. Once the migrations are complete and the severs scaled appropriately I would expect minimal downtime..
