The results you describe of having to refresh the page 6 to 12 times does not appear to be something typical or widespread. Additionally, the error message you receive suspects an environment issue.

Microsoft actually has a KB for this issue of having some (but not all) websites display that error while using Internet Explorer 8 or Internet Explorer 9 on Windows 7, which what you describe as having.

Please see the following Microsoft KB article about this issue and see if it can be used to help:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/967897

If you don't want to mess with the above, my next suggestion would be to try Firefox or Chrome.

It's just one option available. I did list Firefox first

Chrome is a pretty secure, fast and stable, web browser but it does come with personal concerns. However, you don't exactly need Chrome to be tracked as you'll find a lot of other examples of data collection in the real world.

Just for the sake of "reporting", my experiences so far today have been very mixed. I'll have a page or topic load within 3-5 seconds, like it used to, then a few minutes later I'll post a reply, and it will take 45-60 seconds to post...

Actually, while you may not be manually visiting those sites, your computer/browser is being directed to those sites. The connection is made between you and those sites.

CF has embedded scripts from external sites for functionality/content. In those cases, CF is instructing your computer/browser to make a connection to those sites to load external scripts for functionality/content. CF is not actually making those connections and delivering the content directly to you - instead it's directing your computer/browser to those sites and thus the connection is between you and those sites.

CF is not making the connection to those sites. It is referring your computer/browser to those sites for additional content/functionality. The connection is between you and those sites.

To better explain this, it's like someone embedding an image from an external site here on CF. The following image you see, which I embedded, is being loaded between you and Google. It is not being hosted by CF and CF is not loading the following image for you via any connection between CF and Google - instead CF is simply telling your computer/browser to make a connection to Google to load the following image. This is the same principal with the external scripts that are being called/embedded as described above.

However to the end user, it just makes CF load really slow thus looking like CF has the problem, which it does. The problem is both the 3rd party connections *and* it's a CF issue.

I always disable 3rd party scripts, ads and cookies and block superfluous HTTP connections by default in any browser I use. Still, CF is probably the slowest site I visit and always has been. I attribute this to the way the CF webmaster has chosen to use the vBulletin package on the server. Nesting data tables is usually the culprit. Other vBulletin sites I visit do not have these speed issues, at least not to the degree that CF does.

I also agree. It still appears to me that CF is the slowest loading, yet most favorite site, I visit. I was having some laptop issues a couple of weeks back, which curtailed some of my "surfing" until I got a new laptop, and I wasn't over at the LS1 Tech site for a while. I've gone over there several times in the last 2-3 days, and I see that their loading times are a lot slower now, too....

I can't dismiss that CF may not be the fastest loading and/or rendering site, but the nesting of tables and the layout should not be causing 6-12 page refreshes or 30+ second page loads that some have reported. The basic layout has been in place for some time. CF does have a lot of external scripts for functionality as well as some advertisements to help pay for the site as well as help the business.

Those who are seeing CF take 30+ seconds to load or having to refresh the page 6-12 times does not appear a typical or widespread experience. In those cases it appears to be an IE9 related issue, which I had linked to a Microsoft KB Article that discusses, and provides some suggestions, for some sites not loading correctly while others do load normally.

As far as LS1Tech, I've also noted a performance degrade over the past few days in addition to an elevated server load. We'll have that looked into.

Thanks

keyplyr: I don't understand the technical issues involved as well as you and J T, but I do know the site is slow-loading -- at times worse than others.

I assumed for a while it had to do with my computer being old, but I got a new one recently and now it seems slower than ever, using IE 9. Out of necessity, I've switched to FireFox and the difference, at least for me, has been significant.

I'll add this issue to the list of things I want to discuss with the people who are my liaisons at IB and vBulletin.

Meanwhile, I have taken your suggestion and listened to the jazz. Good stuff! More on that via PM.

"Savewave", thanks for your attention to this issue. I'm not trying to be a "difficult child', but when I make the comments that CF has become really slow to load, I'm not comparing it to Google, Yahoo, or any of those general websites. I'm only looking at the load speed of CF today, compared to what is was 6-8 weeks ago, OR to some of the other automotive sites I "surf'......

Nonetheless, thanks for your attention!!

In a previous post you mentioned using Windows 7 and the latest IE, which should be 9. I made a suggestion to give Firefox a try to see if there was a change to help isolate your reported issue.

Savewave and I had discussed some of this, and some with slow loading appear to be IE9 users as a common factor. I previously linked to a Microsoft KB article about IE9 and it having some issues with certain sites but not all sites. Did you give Firefox a try to see if that made any difference?

As far your experience on LS1Tech, while part of the issue may be related to what you're seeing on CF, I also noted a server load concern that I've raised and awaiting review.

I ran several tests on CF using both IE8 and Firefox. In those tests, the site continuously loaded normally (within seconds) while using both IE8 and Firefox. Personally, I've not experienced CF loading abnormally slow when using IE8 or Firefox (with no ad or script blocking). I think the issue some are having are IE9 related, and/or some other local issue. The rest could just be, due to owning a Corvette, think everything else is just slow

leadfoot4: If you haven't already done so, try downloading FireFox. It's free. Then let us know if you see a difference in performance. That certainly was my experience. For whatever reason, my computer, running IE 9, is painfully slow on Corvetteforum.

It gives me load times of up to 40 seconds on some tasks. The same tasks with FireFox are taking a second or less.

There must be some incompatibility issues with the Forum and IE9. I'll discuss it with IB, but until the issue can be resolved, just switch to FireFox.

By way of example, this is my experience just now with FireFox:

To this thread = 404ms
Making this post = 239ms

My only problem with "trying" stuff is that I'm no computer whiz, not by a longshot. I'd rather tackle assembling an LS6 engine, which I've never done before. What I'm getting at, is if I try Firefox, etc, I'll most likely find myself in some sort of hole that I can't did out of for 4-5 days....in other words, I'll be in even worse shape.....

Installing Firefox is pretty straightforward. It's basically setup to install as-is. The only thing I'd recommend is, when you're prompted if you want Firefox to be your default browser, I'd decline that option since you're not familiar with Firefox and you may or may not want it to be your default browser - atleast not at this time.

However, note that even if you do make a mistake and give it permission to be your default browser, you can easily revert that change later.
