login issues
Recently started having login issues, please see my thread in C4 General Discussion. (Don't know how to move it here.) I am running Winvista and IE8. My computer is set to delete cookies when getting off the internet. CF is the only website that is causing me problems. Would appreciate any assistance, thanks.

If you set your browser to delete cookies on exit, you will have to log back in whenever you revisit. If you are having problems staying logged in, it will be a browser issue. First, make sure you use the Remember Me when logging in. Second, you may need to manually delete your browsers cookies.

*edit* I just logged off the Internet and tried logging in and checking the remember Me box, no change in the outcome.

My honest advice would be to use any browser other than Internet Explorer. We find it to be the worst performing, and most troublesome browser available for Windows Computers. We find that Chrome, Safari and Firefox are all much quicker, and more reliable. If you're able, give one of them a try, you won't be disappointed.

Using the Remember Me option places a cookie in your browser. Not using the Remember Me option simply uses a session-based login, which would be deleted when the browser is closed. This is different from the option you're using to delete cookies upon browser exit.
I would echo Robb's suggestion about using a browser other than IE. But if you insist on using IE, I would try manually deleting all your IE cookies.

Thanks for the response. I have always had my browser set to delete cookies, but this issue has just come up within the last week or so. I do not mind logging back in, have always done so. Is it correct that checking the Remember Me box places a cookie, but with the setting I am using, it would be deleted on exit? Is it possible that some sort of security update downloaded from Microsoft has caused this? Do you have any further suggestions? Again, thanks for your help.

Thanks, Robb and J T. I will look into changing my browser. I do not have any particular affection for IE, it's just what came on my computer. As a less-than-expert user, my only concern would be that in changing, I might screw something up. I long ago found that I much preferred Gmail to Windows mail.

Only suggestion I would make is that if you don't want Firefox or Chrome to be your default browsers, when you install either of those browsers, you can decline that option so that you're not forced to using those browsers by default over IE. Of course, if you do select either browser as your default, you can revert those changes. That's really the only thing to "screw up" - but it can be easily fixed.

Thanks all for the help and encouragement. I have downloaded Chrome and made it my default browser. Am currently learning my way around it, settings and so forth. Looking promising!
