The 'thread status' is not working for me ..The indicator should turn a lighter grey to indicate new posts since last visit , shouldn't it ..?

I have to check my ''last visited '' time or else I read down the whole page ...

There was a change made to the thread tracking behavior. The forum is keeping track of threads you've actually read - up to about the past 10 days. Prior, the forum automatically marked threads with content prior to your last visit time as read - even if you actually didn't read the content.

There may be extra threads marked as new that aren't due to the database needing to populate the past 10 days of data. In that event, click on the Mark All Forums Read will reset all posts prior to then as read.

I know where Cuzzin is coming from and this is not quite accurate.

It used to be that new threads (since the last visit) were in "bold." Threads that have been read are in "faded," and older threads (posted prior to the last visit) were just "normal."

Now, new threads are still "bold" and threads that have been read are still "faded."

But the older threads (posted prior to the last visit) stay "bold" like a new thread, for 10 days. At that time they then go to "normal." This is confusing because now you have to remember where you left off, or end up going back to old threads that "appear" as new.

So, the comment "Prior, the forum automatically marked threads with content prior to your last visit time as read - even if you actually didn't read the content." is not accurate because there was a distinct differentiation in a "read" thread and an "old" thread.

I much preferred it as it was.

Second, you state to correct the problem, "click on the Mark All Forums Read will reset all posts prior to then as read."

But you never tell us where "Mark All Forums Read" is even found on the forum and it is not readily obvious.

I don't quite understand what you mean by my comment not being accurate.

The bold titles and darker icons means new content. Prior to the change, that meant any new content since your last visit. Today, that means any content newer than 10 days that you haven't actually read or came after you used the Mark All Forums Read link.

Titles that aren't bold and have the faded icon have no new content. Prior to the change, that meant any content posted before your last visit date. Regardless if you actually did read the content or not. Today, that means content you have actually read, content that is older than 10 days, or content posted prior to using the Mark All Forums Read.

It's right on the index page near the bottom, just above the What's Going On box.

However, that's not going to "fix" your complaint and restore the function that you're used to. It's just going to reset the read/unread content for your next visit.

"Today, that means any content newer than 10 days."

So why 10 days versus the last time visited as it was? The time period seems kind of arbitrary and is really of no use to anyone.

If not "the last visit," why not make it "since yesterday?" Seems like it would be more appropriate.

I believe the 10 days is set in code and that's where that comes from.

As to why the change? The setting more accurately tracks what you have read and works better for those who access the website using different devices.

Previously, your browser was keeping track of read threads on a short-term basis on top of the Last Visit. Cookies don't transfer across devices. Now, the database keeps track of what you read, on a short-term basis (10 days) and thus what appears as unread and read on one device should be the same on the other device.
