I am able to go on the forum without doing anything regarding signing on with my IPAD but I was not able to log on on my desktop today in the normal sign in area but I found another sign on place that worked.
I wonder why I wasn't able to sign on the normal way today.

Without further details no one can answer. But I wouldn't spend a lot of time over it.
If you can't sign in, it's as simple as not entering the correct username or password. The system doesn't tell you which of the two was incorrect. Also, it's been known for a member or two to try logging into a sister website Corvetteforums.com. The two are owned by the same parent company but they don't share the same database.
