It's probably a formatting issue. crop the photo to be square If its not already that way.
and make sure it's the proper size (150 max width & height)

To clarify, it was likely because the photo was taken sideways. Cameras, such as iphones, etc., are smart to auto rotate the picture correctly when you review them. However, when sharing and/or posting pictures that information is not always available or used by the receiver to make the same auto rotate.
