It is a database error. The exact error is not shown on the front-end to users but can be viewed through source code. Numerous reasons can cause the error message. Similar to numerous reasons why a Check Engine/Service Engine Soon light might be on a vehicle. On the backside, those errors are logged so the team does see and know about them. Sometimes during high traffic or high usage, that error might be displayed due to a temporary resource issue and I'd suspect that was what you seen.
