Click your user name in the upper right corner, select User Control Panel. Then on the left under Setting and Options select Edit Options. You can change your email options there, under Messaging & Notification, Default Thread Subscription Mode, including opting out altogether.

Note that changing the Default Thread Subscription Mode in the UserCP will not change the existing subscriptions. You will continue to receive email notifications for threads that you've already subscribed to, prior to you changing that setting. As the option name suggests, it's the "default" setting, however, it can be overridden and will be if you already have existing subscriptions or make custom changes per thread.

So you'll need to start by going to UserCP, Edit Options and change the Default Thread Subscription Mode setting.

You next need to take care of the current subscriptions.

Go to UserCP, View all Subscribed Threads, and manually change the options for that thread. There is a mass-select feature using the checkbox column to the right and selecting the appropriate action in the bottom right corner.

Lastly, we encourage members to take some time to read the FAQ, and the Stickies and Announcements, as they contain important and frequently asked information. The subscription feature is outlined in the FAQ:
https://www.corvetteforum.com/forums/faq.php

Also check the Help Guide for other commonly asked information:

Suggestion:
it would be better to not automatically subscribe a user to a thread due to simply posting in that thread. IMO the default setting for this feature should be Do Not Subscribe. We the users should be the ones that select whether or not a thread should be subbed, not the default setting doing it automatically. Just a suggestion.

You have that ability by following my directions that was provided in my previous reply that you quoted. If you follow those instructions and change the default setting to Do Not Subscribe, then that will be the preference used from that point forward for the account. The exception is those threads that you've already have subscriptions set for, in which case you have to manually update those threads.

If you're suggesting that accounts should have that set from the beginning, that is subjective. There can only be one setting defined as default. The team makes the best settings, as default, but the members have the ability to change those settings. There is no way to accommodate all 495K members with default settings that match their exact preferences. CorvetteForum has been online for over 20 years, and while I've only been involved for about half of that time, I think this is the first time someone has made such a suggestion.

With the desire for community engagement via participation, which the default subscription mode supports, I doubt that default setting is going to be changed. On the other end, some might miss out on content because they didn't set subscriptions.

Members have the ability to change the options that best work for them.

Fair enough, thanks for the response. Some of us don't like to be bombarded with extraneous e-mails automatically. I came from Miata.net and they do not automatically bombard their members' e-mail accounts with all these e-mail notifications. This seems like the friendlier default approach in this day and age of being constantly bombarded with unwanted emails. Just my opinion, for what it's worth. if I wanted to automatically subscribe to every thread I post in, I should have to change a setting to do that. Again, just personal preference and opinion.

Perhaps most Corvette owners like constantly getting emails and Miata owners don't.

Maybe the first member to suggest changing the default, but the OP seemed to not like the default setting either.

The OP joined 12 years ago when the registration process was different. Today, the registration process is streamlined so that members can quickly, and easily, join. This also means members aren't "bombarded" with several options on the registration process but, instead, are in the UserCP where they can be later changed from their default settings.

Each community is different. Additionally, as noted above, the Default Subscription Mode is set to Instant Email to encourage activity and participation within the community by making sure members don't miss out on updates to threads they've either subscribed or contributed to.

However, also as noted, the default settings can be changed in the UserCP.

We encourage members to take the time to use the UserCP to adjust their account preferences and options. We also encourage new members to read the FAQ, as well as the Announcements and Stickies, as they contain important and frequently asked information.
