Default A/C Question

Just purchased a 1987 Coupe. I don't see any placards indicating that the A/C system was converted from R12 to 134. Seller doesn't know. Is there any way to determine this? Also, is there a source of R12 refrigerant that can be used. The A/C system is depleted at the moment.
Thanks
