1996 c4 hatch switch on door

1996 c4 hatch switch on door
THIS IS WEIRD! I heard a clicking noise in the garage. I have my C4 up on the lift for winter. Suddenly the hatch switch is going on and off, on and off, on and off about every 20 seconds. The dash says "Passive system" something or other. I pulled the switch out, and I was about to take the wires off the switch when I thought I would spray it with die-electric grease to make removing the wires easy.... the grease fixed the issue. Im electrical challenged
