Ron Nelson 1938 - 2008 ("LUV2SHO")
Ronald O. Nelson, age 70 of Omaha, Nebraska formerly of Red Oak, IA Ronald
Owen Nelson the son of Lorman "Larry" and Ethel (Donahue) Nelson was born
March 11, 1938 in Waseca, Minnesota. He died on November 19, 2008 at the
Heritage House in Atlantic, Iowa, after a 10 month battle with cancer. Ron
was 70 years, 8 months and 8 days old.
Ron was baptized and confirmed at St. Augustine Catholic Church and
graduated in 1956 from St. Augustine Catholic High School in Austin, MN.
Ron entered the U.S. Navy in l958, stationed in Long Beach, CA and toured
SE Asia and Japan, being discharged in l962. Ron was united in marriage to
Janis Johnson on April 1, 1959, at Austin, MN.
Ron started his 30-year career with IBM in Rochester, MN. He then moved to
Omaha, NE as a field engineer serving southwest Iowa and moved to Red Oak,
IA in 1964. Ron returned to Omaha in l987. He was later united in marriage
to Chris Christen in December of 1987 at Oakland, NE. After Ron's
retirement from IBM in l992, he took a position with INACOM in Omaha, and
later worked part-time with Meds Express Company which serviced the Omaha
metro area and northeast Nebraska.
Ron had coached youth baseball and football. He enjoyed bowling and
hunting with his sons. He began long-distance running in his mid-40s and
competed in seven marathons in as many years. His greatest pastime,
however, involved Corvettes. For 20 years, Ron was an active member with
the Midwest Early Corvette Club and consistently won top car show prizes
with his immaculate black 1990 coupe which, for a time, carried a vanity
plate "LUV2SHO". Ron was preceded in death by his father, mother and
step-mother, Ruth.
Ron is survived by his three sons and daughter-in-laws: Scott and Sandy
Nelson of Atlantic, IA; Jeffrey and Teresa Nelson of Red Oak, IA; Michael
and Kim Nelson of Red Oak, IA; four grandsons: Kyle, Travis, Jordan and
Dixon; sister; Sandy Arends and husband Rodney of Lonsdale, MN; niece,
nephews, cousins and other relatives and many friends.
