I've been lurking here for years and years but never bothered to register, so here I am, in the digital flesh. Go me.
I've been driving corvettes for the past 10 years and currently have my third and will be buying my fourth before the end of the year (saving up is a pain, but I want to put in a big down payment).
First car was a 1982 CE when I was 16 (lot of friction involved from the parents, actually, but it was in my price range and it was my money... man those things have gone up in value, I wish I didn't sell it). The '82 was having tons is mechanical trouble so it got the boot after just a year and a few months. Next came a 1975, with a crate engine and so on and so forth (the engine apparently made 350 hp, but I never dynod it), which, in hindsight, was a pretty bad purchase, but it was fun at the time, so it's all good. That was totaled in the high school parking lot when some crackpot was flying around in his lifted truck (that was fun... high school sucks). Then I decided to take the insurance money and add some of my own and bought a Green 1994 coupe that I've had ever since (which is 8 years now). Took me to college, took me back home, it's been a fabulous car. My next one will be a C6 and I can't wait.
Out of all of them, my favorite is the '82 CE, though... I've driven a few C6's and they're fabulous cars, but I'm not sure there will ever be a car that can replace that 82 for me. I know everyone says they get looks in their new corvette, but I can guarantee that nothing gets the gawkers like a (ridiculously shiny, the way only an obsessed high schooler can make it) classic.
Welcome and good to have you as a member I enjoyed reading your story and I must say your Avatar is great. Good luck with your C6 when you pick that up.
