I've been reading tons of posts here, so I decided to join and be social!
My name is Erin, I'm 26 years old, and I live in the suburbs of Chicago. I work in Chicago on the North side, so I'm also there everyday. My very first car was a 1980 Corvette when I was 16. C3 Corvettes were all I dreamed about from the time I was 7 or 8 years old. I didn't have my Vette for very long due to some unfortunate things that I had no control over... But I am now able be in the market to buy another one after 10 loooong years of missing my c3.
Anyway, I look forward to chatting with you all... and learning as much as I can while looking for that perfect c3 to call mine.
Wow Erin. I'm reading good news/bad news. Good news is you managed a vette at 16. Bad news you have a dry spell of some 10 yrs. That's gotta hurt. But you had the experience & remember well. And CF can put the band-aid on the hurt. Good to see you post. We know you'll find your dream again.
Once you get the C3 out of your system try out a 03/04 Z06. Did you know 26% of Z owners are under 30? You only got a few yrs left to be included.
btw: not fair...got my first one at the ripe old age of 19. A SWC. I'm 'still' younger than you but I do have 43 yrs experience w/23 of them. Good times are around the bend.
Thanks to everyone for the welcome I look forward to your advice and getting to know everyone.

Basically, since I was only 16, the c3 was in my dad's name. He sold it behind my back while it was in the garage and skipped town. I haven't really spoken to him or seen him since... and not just because of what he did to the car... it was just pretty much the icing on the cake and the last thing he knew he could destroy of mine.
I think it might take me another 10 years of having it to get the c3 out of my system I tried taking people's advice and be more practical/find something newer. I actually test drove a 2004 Corvette, but it just wasn't the same to me... I also test drove an '06 GTO, since it had a LS2 engine, and for the practicality of it as a daily driver + a backseat, but that just didn't do it for me either. I decided the smartest thing to do is just stick to the original plan and keep my daily driver ('06 Tiburon), finish paying it off, and get the c3... or I just wouldn't ever be as happy! Things are falling in to place and hopefully I will get it soon.
How did your first C3 come about? My first vette had to be in my mothers name cause the bank wouldn't give me a loan w/o credit history. All 5 payments were made by me before Sam (yeah, another relative) essentially forced my hand to sell.
Sounds like you're on to something. I know I had fun w/tons of em. Started out C3 with a 68 Vert 427/390.
There are tons more stories but everyone has them. Me thinks the C3 is a great vette. I got a CF buddy that's into em too. What I like most abt them is the funny car front end. Nice long stretch. Looked at pics I took at our last years Oct Vette event and a blk one really holds it's own amongst the 200+ Vettes @ Sandestin, FL. At some point I'll put some of my C3 pics in the Avatar. I did my first vette that way and RATMOTORTOM discovered it living in Ohio w/the VIN.
Well, gotta check the Z's out on C5 as I do daily.
John

Slideshow: A Jaguar designer's personal project imagines what a modern front-engined Corvette might look like if Chevrolet revisited the golden age of the Stingray.
