Greetings!!
Jerry here....first Vette of my own but had access to a C3 while in HS and it was pure delight being the only kid in school who drove one. Straight up traded my non #'s matching BB/4speed '66 El Co that I started to tear apart for a body off restore for this '92 Z07 in fair/good running condition with 127,000 miles about a month ago. I definately traded up and before I started lurking around here I didn't even know it was a Z07! When I found that out I danced around the house for hours singing my "I Got a Z07 Vette" song.
"Vettezy" needs some body work and paint, weather stripping, seat covers & foam, suspension bushings(no klunks and she's tight but they're dry rotted where you can see them) ball joints(in transit) and some new carpet. I have a priapism to get her to VIR and run her!
She slips a little in 4th gear but pulls hard up to that point. She starts right up, no SES or other lights while in operation but has a touch of top end deceleration valve float.... which will be rectified with a Hot Cam kit when she gets her engine freshened up. I'm thinking about getting a TIPS 52mm TB, seen one on that auction site, but haven't determined if the expense is worth the gain. A turbo, Patriot Heads and D44 are destined to be in her future. I drove a friends '08 LT3 with paddle shift the other day, grinning the whole time, and want Vettezy to blow his doors off straight line and twisty racing .
So far I R&R all the fluids, replaced the front hubs, rotors/pads, main shaft ujoints, hatch/hood struts, installed a Corsa CB exhaust, K&N AF and Earl's SS BH's. Those old school hot rodding experiences came in handy and I'm almost to the point I totally trust her and have been driving around locally to gain that last little bit of confidence before I embark on a serious road trip.
After the mechanical faults are corrected the C5 front calipers that I was going to retro fit on the El Co will be installed and a set of C5 Z06 Speedlines will go on when they get some new rubber. One of the rears has some serious curb rash(see pic) and I'm on the hunt for a repair specialists or replacement. After those are on I'ld like to lower her a tad... don't know how yet but that search button here hasn't failed me yet.
I have dreams of Vettezy being strictly a track car and picking up a '03 or '04 Z06 or C6 daily driver but until then my new girlfriend will sastify my hot rod/tinkering needs until I stumble on the right deal.
This is a great site Gentlemen, I'm excitied to be a member of the club and send my Thanks and Best Regards to you all for taking the time to share your knowledge and experience with your fellow Vette owners.
