Hi , I'm Daniel, 67, was into cars in the 1950s and craved a 57 Vette, then motorcycles racing AMA class C flat track eairly 1960s and could only afford a pickup to haul my motorcycles, then Bible College, discriptive linguistics to develop alphabet for tribe. The most striking experience was living with a simple non tech culture and not driving a car or MC for 4 years. I took a bicycle to Tikopia Island but the paths are foot paths with big roots and boulders and the China bicycle would not work. What a relief to be back in the USA in 1978 and picked up the Dodge 440 another missionary had traded for our Honda 70cc. However when I left home gas was $.31 per gallon so the first fillup gave me a panic attack. In 2003 bought a Buell and went drag racing then Harleys with sidecars as my ankles gave out. Last month I quit riding MC because the sidecar rig is not manuverable and the people talking on cell phones are worse than a bunch of drunks. So last week bought my first Corvette, a 1984 C4 with C5 body kit and all the usual problems of an aging orphan with a hundred fifty thousand hard miles. I am calling it my fixer/sampler. The Cross Fire litterly sucks everywhere but through the throttle bodies, the windows are locked in the up position with hose clamps and the liquid cristial instruments come and go but never seem to say anything useful. As an old racer and Honda certified MC service tech, Corvette Forum and related sites helped me to action. The TBI comes off tomorrow and a alum Camaro manifold with a Edlbrock 600 carb goes on with a 1975 HEI distributor. Right now searching for posts on replacing the Liquid Cristial display with gages and will bight the bullitt and buy the window ribbons from Corvette Central. Then I hope to trade up/back for a first Generation that needs work. The 84 is my sampler to see if a Corvette will be my next to last ride, before the herse. I am impressed with the handling and hope to do a resto mod 57 using C4 suspension. Thanks for the Corvette Forum family for the help and advice you freely give. Would like to insert photos but am limited. I pray God's blessing on you all.
