I was a member a couple of years ago and had been saving and planning to buy a vette for years, but dear wife totalled her Subaru and I spent my vette money to buy her a new Hyundai SUV from our local dealer to replace her beloved Outback. That was May of 2008 and that's when I left the forum thinking I had no real chance of ever getting a vette. I'm 62 and retired so I figured I'd just enjoy life, play golf and drive my F-150 from now on. I was driving home from the golf course a couple of days ago and I routinely pass the Hyundai dealership where we bought wife's new SUV. I went to school with the owner so I always wave at the sales people on the lot as I drive by. But this time I saw the most awesome looking black C-5 I had ever seen parked in the front of the lot off to the side by itself. I don't know why but something made me pull in and look at it. I figured it was a customer who had parked off to the side to protect his vette. I was surprised to find a sticker in the window indicating the car was for sale. I don't know about you guys, but down here in southern Kentucky, when you find a really nice Corvette for sale on a Hyundai lot, you become suspicious. I immediately thought "salvage, rebuilt wreck". The sales mgr. saw me, came out to say hello and the conversation started. To make this long story short and sweet, I found out after some investigating that the vette had belonged to a friend of mine that I had not seen in years. He had gotten engaged and sold his vette to Hyundai because HE was friends with the owner also! I got his cell # from sales mgr, called him and he gave me the full story on the C-5 and it was too good to be true. 2004 coupe, Clean fax, New tires, new brakes, new exhaust system, 40K on the clock, 10ft paint and the price was right! It took me till yesterday to work things out but tonight that vette is in MY garage with MY name on the title. I'm going to have a lot of questions for you as time goes on. I'm still reading the owner's manual and figuring things out. Don't ever give up on your dreams, success may just be around the corner.
I understand just what you are feeling. I'm just a little older than you are and always wanted a Corvette parked in the garage, but more so to be driving it on the open road. Have fun with it and as one of the other fourm members once stated, "Drive it like you just stole it!" Good Luck.
Congratulations on your 'new' C5 jdot!! I can relate to your story. I'm 57 (same age as the Vette!!) and had always wanted a Vette but figured it would never happen. Sometimes things just fall into place and we get sort of lucky I guess. What year C5 is it and is it an auto or stick?? The black ones sure look great! The color really shows off the lines of the car! Enjoy and drive safe?

It's a blk on blk automatic 2004 coupe but I wanted a six, however I'm very happy with what I have. It's loaded: leather, memory, dual pwr seats, single panel top, 2.73 rear end, magnesium wheels, twilight, HUD. Grandson is currently using his camera expertise taking all sorts of pictures we hope to show to you all soon. He's as excited as I am about it. He thinks it's going to be his one day.
Thanks for that info jdot! Car sounds great. Auto or stick, I don't think you can go wrong. I ended up with a 6 speed, but, I have to admit that on some mornings when I'm stuck in rush hour traffic I wish I had an auto! With that 2.73 rear end you should be able to squeeze some great gas mileage out of it. You probably can't even hear the engine running when you're cruising down the interstate! The weather sure is nice now. I imagine you've had that roof panel off and enjoying the great spring weather!
Lucky you...you don't even have to drive too far to get to the Factory!!!
