Default Hey Thanks!

Hey Thanks everyone for developing a forum where I can learn and share Corvette info! I bought my dream car, the C6 Corvette, in May of this year and it is truely a magnificent performance machine! It's a burnt orange 2005 C6 with a tinted removable top, light beige interior and manual 6 speed...and it sparkles in the sun hahaha! It has 40k miles on it and I recently checked it out with a corvette expert friend of a friend. Everything checked out well, however as I have been driving it lately, I have seen the oil pressure gauge go up and down between say 30psi and 60 psi depending on the amount of throttle I give it...more throttle = more pressure. Also, there is a whining sound that gets softer and louder with the throttle too...I checked the oil, all the way up the three holes in the dipstick, checked the clutch fluid and the serpentene belt is taught and not cracked...I'm kinda lost for now, I want to drive my Corvette, but I don't wanna break it!!! Any suggestions??? Thanks!

Welcome to the Forum!!!!!!!!!!!! Congratulations on your C6!! Just for clarity the color is Daytona Sunset Orange Metallic, aka DSOM around here.

You should post your questions in C6 General,

http://forums.corvetteforum.com/c6-c...discussion-74/

but I'll get you started. The oil pressure thing could be nothing or could be the sending unit going bad. We're seeing more of those going out lately. While it's possible there is a pump issue it is highly unlikely....but...beware, if you hear any kind of heavy metallic rattle from the engine shut it down immediately. The whining sound could be the belt tensioner (pretty common), or alternator or water pump.

Also a word of advice about your clutch fluid. In these cars the clutch fluid tends to get fouled from clutch dust entering past the seal on the slave cylinder and the performance of the clutch degrades. You get things like the pedal sticking at the floor and not returning and incomplete disengagement no matter how far you push the pedal. So, you need to commit to watching it closely, depending on how much and how hard you drive. When it gets dark colored, it's time to change it. One of our members, Ranger, developed a DIY process that takes only a few minutes. Some here do it weekly, some just a few times a year, it all depends on use. Here's a link to Ranger's instructions:

Good luck, have fun and enjoy the Forums.
