Default thinking, thinking... ????

Hi,
I have been thinking about getting a Corvette, for about 35 years. But I think I am serious this time..

I test drove a 2011 Grans Sport 3lt.. absolutely loved it, even though it had and automatic and I haven't owned an auto in 14 years, and really want a manual. Then I test drove a used 06 manual. I was not as taken as I thought I would be. It was not quite as comfortable even though it had the fancy seats with memory, but not bad.

It did not feel as tight as the GS, not sure if it was because it wasn't a GS, it had a manual, or the fact it was used. It had a slightly unstable feeling in the rear end around corners like suspension was shifting a tiny bit when I was shifting. Much like my 86 Trans AM, but it does it because it is OLD! Is this normal? And/or is the GS that much tighter handling, or was there something wrong with the 06?

The glass top also made a clicking sound when going around corners. Is this common? Wasn't really looking for glass top anyway. I don't really like the Florida sun beating down on me all the time.

And third thing I was not fond of, was it had the nav package, I didn't like the way the controls were for the stereo through the nav screen. It did not have any controls on the steering wheel like the 2011.

Having a hard time finding manuals, but I guess I need to test driving a few more before I decide. Any advice would be appreciated.

Welcome to the Forum!!!!!!! Any questions you have about C6's ('05-'12) should be asked in the C6 General Forum. Lots of help and advice. But I'll just get you started here. There were some significant changes starting with the '08 models that contributed to a "nicer feeling" car. It's hard to quantify and GM never has admitted anything other than improved steering rack and new, improved manual trans. So, the difference you felt between the '06 and '11 is probably "real" and expected. I'm thinking you might be more sensitive than many, there are plenty of owners who swear there is no difference. I know I felt it when I got my '08. As for the top clicking, that's a pretty common issue with any of the removable tops, but more so with pre-'10 cars.

Anyway, hope that helps a bit. Any other questions just head to C6 General. Good luck and enjoy the Forums.

Thanks for the info.. Actually the only reason I have been looking at used is because I love the darker Monterrey Red they had from 05 to 07. I guess I will have to live with some other color.

I only waited 37 years,, But back in 79 I wanted a sports car and bought a 78 (one year old used) Fiat 128 Spyder, never even looked at Corvettes then, just assumed they were out of my price range.. Later found out used 77s were going for only $1k more then I paid for the Fiat. Doh!!

I don't see anyway to upload an image or I would post a pic.
