I almost bought a c4 in 89 but bought a house instead. Jump ahead to NOW and my wife and I have started looking for either a c-5 or C-6. I am looking for any advice, warnings and hopefully good humor. I test drove several a couple of weekend ago and had very mixed performance experiences, and I was curious why. I drove an 06 convertible with stock 400 hp engine automatic with 30k miles it ran good and excelerated well. We then drove a new C-6 coup standard with 5 miles and it's exceleration was poor (better than my ford truck but still) we then drove a new sport coup with 15. Miles. Again standard transmission, it's exceleration scared me! Wow what a ride. And last was an 05 auto transmisson 28k which was again poor. Can anyone explain the difference in performance all had the same engine.
Welcome back to the Vette world! My wife and I have had a Corvette in the garage since 1980 when we bought a 1969 BB Convertible. Her first 'daily driver' was a 1985 coupe and 10 years later I replaced that car with a '95.
Even though we had these Corvettes we were kind of out of the car thing enjoying our Harleys more for trips, vacations. We have back 'into' the Vette world in resent times.
To answer your question, and I am no expert, so anybody can correct me. But here goes.
First the cars you drove were not all the same motors. The C-6's starting in 2005, 06, 07 had the 400hp engine and I THINK they wee LS 1's and LS2's ? Then starting in 2008 they has the LS 3 which has 435 HP. A friend of mine has had several of each and he say's that the LS 3 starting in 08 is the motor/ car to have if you want the best performance he could tell a big difference.
The 2007 was the first year that GM offered a 100,000 mile powertrain warranty so buying from 07 up has that advantage. Also I think the autos in the early C-6s were 5 speeds and there was a change later on? Someone help me here???
As far as the performance there is always going to be some differences between like model cars. But I wonder why you called one new car a 'c-6 coup standard '(the one with 5 miles) and another car 'New sport coupe' (the one with 15 miles) That has me confused with what you drove. Were you talking about a Grand Sport model?
Anyway have fun with your shopping and good luck with what ever you end up buying.
Welcome to the Forum!!!!!! As mentioned, just head over to C6 General to ask and learn about C6's (2005 - present). Go to C5 General to ask and learn about C5's (1997-2004). Good luck, enjoy the Forums.
