Newbie...
thanks, Thanks, THANK YOU! Just registered... have used this site so much for info I thought I owe it to everyone to join and share some of what I've learned and maybe some new things for others to try. Almost ten years ago I bought my wife a 78 silver anniversary car for our 25th anniversary. We took the car to Bloomington and it Benchmarked...
well, we couldn't drive it and enjoy it so I traded a buddy of mine for this 73 4spd big block and have been enjoying it. Well, until the passengers side window motor went out......thats when all the fun and searching began. This fairly simple journey into getting intimate with this car took a twisted turn... the farther I got.. the farther I keep going. I ultimately gutted the inside of the car to fix or repair all the little things that needed it and smother it with Dynamat. Still in progress I hope to get all the parts and finish... or at least complete this phase of my small resto project, I guess it never "really" ends or is "finished"
I was able to sucessfully swap out and or repair the motors for each side of the car.... of course in the process discovered issues with the nearly 40 year old deluxe and leather door panels. Cleaned up, and separated the wiring behind the gauge cluster and taped them in groups to make it easier to keep up with what goes where. Plus, the should have done that at the factory anyway! Maybe they did on some and mine was built on friday and the workers were just ready for a nice long weekend. It just seems like the pride in assembly wasn't there.
In wanting to keep things as original as possible and still wanting a decent stereo I took out the old Delco and components to replace with a KHE 300 going to add a Rockford Fosgate P200-2 and drive some 6x9 Infinities. Not a big deal except for the location of my speakers and amp....searched a lot a never found any place that didn't either take up storage or was visible...so.....being me...I thought up and planned a way to mount the speakers and amp behind the plenum...under the window in the back of the car....there is a space between the "back wall" where the interior light is and the plenum for the "drain" that's part of the astro venilation system is. It is the width of the back basically and about 3 1/2 inches deep, so not all speakers would fit. I made some simple enclosures that are not completely sealed but are filled with poly to keep down the muddy distortion... I'll try and get some pics. THEY don't show and are out of the way....
Also have been using a product for repairs that is unbelievable stuff!
I love it! ITs called SEM 39768 Problem Plastic Repair Material
SEMS Products, Inc. I got it at a auto repair paint shop. IT is pricey but worth every penny!!! Best buy I have made in a long time. And I am not getting any commission or anything for this ad.
I used it mostly for the "clips" on the ends of the door panels that help hold the panel to the door frame, the velcro type pads just aren't strong enough to hold it in place. But, of course these "clips" were under engineered and break out of the panel......the Problem Plastic Repair Material worked awesome to put these back in service. Kinda lengthy for an intro.....sorry. I'll get those pics and post them with some instructions...Thanks again to all you enthusiast for your help!
Ya'll ROCK

Here's what the speakers look like....
