My first corvette
I've always wanted a Corvette ever since I built my Revel model of a 1964(?) split window stingray coupe...blue with 4 spd synchromesh transmission. Or since I saw my first in a showroom back in 1968. Now, I'm fortunate enough to help the American economy and purchase one.
My only regret is not being able to go all they way and take part in the building of the LS7 engine. I'll probably regret not doing this later.
I have taken a bit of flack for purchasing a car like this. But, I tell people that perhaps with my purchase, maybe, just maybe, someone's job will be saved. Or, even maybe, someone will be hired. I mean, everyone is getting a piece of this car. My local bank, the town, the state, the dealership-a small local business-and, GM. And what do I get in return? An American bonafide super car. Not a bad trade-off, really.
I'm in a similar situation. I just purchased my C6 (used). Financially would have been better to wait to purchase but I've been waiting for a long time and I wanted to begin to enjoy using it with my son...can't put a value on that time.
How about some pictures of the new Vette.
The Best of Corvette for Corvette Enthusiasts
I help administer a very small sports car site called: iroc-zpost.com. My user name there is simply SM. Even though I'll be leaving the 3rd gen world, I'll still be there to help people answer their questions and help keep their cars running. I'm hoping this site will have the same friendliness and openness as our 3rd gen site. For us, the only dumb question is that question which is never asked. It's a place where anyone can join. Like a virtual house with a always open virtual fridge with virtual beverages. Just come on in, grab a drink, sit down and lets talk cars.
I'm hoping to learn a lot more about the Corvette series, history and technology. I'm also planning on spending the $200 to get the HELM shop manual for my new 'vette. As I did originally with my iroc-z. With it, I've been able to fix many problems myself and also help others. I hope to be able to be as functional here.
No pictures yet...I'm actually factory ordering the car and I'm told it'll arrive in 6-8 weeks. I did this because I didn't need the 3LZ interior, which is what most of the cars in the lots have. I'm just getting the base ebony interior with no accents. The exterior will be white.

I think you will find that forum member are very friendly. We are all in it together and want to help each other.
40 minutes , not too far away from me.
Enjoy the Z06, that is one heck of a perform e car. I see them at the track that I go to, track or road worthy car right out of the box....
I got my order # on Friday afternoon. I can go to Chey's site and watch the progression of the 'vette during the assembly process.
The last car I factory ordered was my iroc-z back in Nov. '85. Back then, one could pick all the options individually. Even tinted windows could be ordered w/o the a/c. But, of course, ordering the a/c automatically added tinted windows.
I think I got a decent deal on the Z. I got it for below msrp. And the dealership, Loehmann-Blasius has been good to deal with so far. The salesman is very low key and no pressure. They were one of the first to give me a 'turn key' price in writing, and they were the lowest of 3 bids. The other 3-4 dealerships wouldn't give me any price, or just the price of the car itself and nothing else. They wanted me to 'come in' so they could beat me senseless, tell me how great they're dealerships are and waste my time in general. I've no patience for that.
I'm looking forward to my first cruises along Rt 136/Rt 53 in Fairfield. Where the mansions are and where Paul Newman's house used to be...I used to work for Perkin-Elmer on Rt. 7 (Danbury Rd.) off Rt. 33. in Wilton. It's the part of Fairfield county I know best...
The track I'm most familiar with is Lime Rock Park. I've gone there for years. It's great. If I were to put this car on the track, I'd probably have gotten the z07 option. But, for me, that seemed like serious overkill. Especially with the brakes and tires....
I'm just curious, how has everyone's Corvettes been? Have they proven to be reliable? A BIG reason why I decided to get one is Consumer's Reports for the 2011 model year just elevated the entire Corvette line to 'Recommended.' And the Z06's reliability was 'above average.' Which is a miracle, imo. That's the same level as my 2011 Mazda3!!! I'm really keeping my fingers and toes crossed that GM has finally gotten these cars sorted out.
Right now, I'm glad I don't have it. They're ripping up all the streets in my town for repaving. Bloody 'ell, what a mess!
