Looking for my first Vette.

Hey all,title says it all.I'm looking to purchase my first Vette (don't want to spend more than 10k) Don't know much about them,except they are beautiful machines.I do like the late c-3 (80-82).I was told the c-4 are a better buy but will cost a little more (I was told to look at 92-96).I have a Buick lacrosse as a DD,but will look to buzz around in my Vette quite often.I live in Staten Island and looking to buy local.Any advice would help as far insurance companies (Haggerty ?) for the best priced insurance,and also if there is a service that will check the car out before the money haggle (engine and body) i heard Carchex is one.Please any advice would help,I don't want to make a mistake.Also,can I assume buying on here would be an option...Thanks.

Thanks Everyone.Ben,I'll keep an eye on what members are selling here,tyhat might be the way to go.I'm not going to rush into a buy.I do want want soon though.midlife crisis maybe.
