I'm going to need help!
I actually joined because I'm looking for a project car. You see, my father-in-law has been one of the most generous people I've known in my life. Anytime we've needed anything (and often when we didn't) my inlaws were there. When I needed a job, my f-i-l hired me. When our car was dying, they bought us a new one. When our apartments have needed some handiwork, he's usually the one to do it before we even ask.
Anyhow, my inlaws have pretty much everything they could ever want, but my father-in-law has always wanted a Corvette. He could easily buy one, but for whatever reason never has. But he often talks about wanting one.
So I want to get one for him. I think it's probably the only thing I could do to say thank you for all that he's done for me. I just took a job as a professor, and while money the isn't great, it could potentially allow me to get something like an inexpensive C4 and fix it up and then gift it to my inlaws. I'm really at the beginning of this idea, but I think it could be fun to do, and I'd love to see his face if it were to happen. I've looked, and there are a couple ones local for relatively inexpensive, but I don't even know where to begin when looking at one.
So what do you think? Is this doable? I haven't had a chance to research it yet, so I don't know how expensive parts are. If anyone has any thoughts/ideas/suggestions, please let me know. I figure this forum is a good place to start, so I'm going to be reading a lot, probably asking a lot of dumb/newb questions. And if I do get a project car, I'll start a build thread and include pics of his face when I give the car to him.

Thanks!
TL;DR - I want to buy my father-in-law a Vette as a thank you for all he's done for my wife and me.

Buying a C4 project car is doable and they can be found at affordable prices BUT you need to know how to do most of the work yourself. Farming the work out will make the budget go sky high. For help post over in C4 http://forums.corvetteforum.com/c4-g...discussion-34/ those guys can give you the help you need to take on a project like this.

I haven't done a ton of work on cars, but I'm pretty handy with tools, and I've done the modding and maintenance on my MS3, so I'm hoping that that the C4 guys can guide me through any issues I may encounter. But I want to do as much of it myself as I can.

Besides, once I actually get behind the wheel of a 'vette, I have a feeling that the shine on my fail wheel drive baby might be a little dulled.
