Thanks, will do.

My phone is 540-809-4051. Don't know when I can come down. Will await the weather finally drying up - I assume you're as soaked and flooded as we are up here in Stafford.

I'll try to get a test drive at Cooper Corvettes also - that place is nearby.

Cheers,
Mike

Good luck with your test drive.

I'll try on Tuesday. The monsoons should be gone by then.

BTW, are you free during the week or just weekends? I can ride the Beemer down to see your car. At your convenience.

Thanks so much for staying touch. Much appreciated.

Default Got it! 2002 Z06 Black Beauty now in the garage

Thanks to all of you who replied and offered encouragement for my C5 search. Bought a low-mileage black Z06 from Prestige Motorcars in York, PA. Drove it home last Saturday, but have been too busy with DMV and state inspections and family and weather to drive it much. Hope to put some miles on it next week.

Now, gotta sell the bike. In the meantime, Go Royals!!!

Cheers,
Mike

I bought my car a week and half before you did at Prestige. I bought the Black and Tan 2004. I looked at the Z06 you bought, but didn't drive it as I was set on a convertible! Hope you were able to enjoy it a little bit before winter came!

Dave,

Hope your car is a good one. It turns out that my VIN is in a medium-risk category for broken valve springs. I have the Z06 with the LS6 engine. Don't know if your car is affected by this problem. Anyway, I spent the $$ to get the valve springs replaced for peace of mind. I just completed a 1000-mile trip to NC and TN to see family. The car is filthy from all the travel through the snow and salt. I now have put 4000 miles on it since the purchase.

I am not happy that a lot of used Vette dealers are very likely, with full knowledge, selling the C5 Z06 knowing that the broken valve spring issues exists and not (1) fixing the cars before they leave the lot and (2) not telling the buyer about it. I discovered, via this Forum, after the fact.

Anyway, I am really enjoying the car. Six-speed with tons of torque and giddy-up, and a very nice stereo with XM and Blue Tooth.

Cheers,
Mike

So far so good. My car is covered and won't move until April most likely. Mine is a garage queen. I fall into the "seldomly drive their Vette" group. If we put 2000 miles a year on it that will be a lot.

How many miles were on the car when you bought it?

It had 49.5K miles. All the fluids had been changed. It now has a tad over 53.5K. I plan to have the oil and filter changed and a 4-wheel alignment done at 55K.

The car runs very well and fun to drive. My first Vette. It takes curves and ON and OFF-ramps like a slot car. As fun as my motorcycle.

Cheers,
Mike

Nice! I love driving mine although I have only put 370 miles on it. I need new tires bad as it still has the factory tires and they are 12 years old , plenty of tread left just super hard and no grip. I've never had a sports car let alone a high performance car so this is all new to me, but I'm loving it!

Okee-dokee. Must be a low-mileage car if it has the original rubber.

Get out and drive it. These things were meant to be driven. I've already been to Tennessee twice. Driving to Richmond this Saturday, and to Chesapeake on Tuesday. These are trips that I would normally prefer on the motorcycle, but the Vette provides the flexibility to stay comfortable in the harsh cold and elements.

Drive safe and enjoy the car,
Mike

TomcatMike... You are awesome! You have already put more than a full years worth of miles on your new Z06! (At least by the garage queen standards around here.)

Drive baby drive!

Yo Guru,

Thanks. Yep, I have over 4700 miles since I bought it in October. Replaced the valve springs with the blue GM OEM springs early last month. The car runs well. Currently down here in Virginia Beach for a conference and to spend time with the grandkids.

It handles quite well in the rain. Very sure-footed.

Cheers,
Mike
