Hey, welcome to,the Forum Joel
There were no convertibles in those years but in '78 there were about 6500 Corvette Pace Cars and in '82 there were about 6700 Colletor Edition Corvettes. Also on those CE Vettes, the rear glass hatchbacks were introduced for the first time. CrossFire Injection engines were also introduced for the first time in '82. Best of luck in finding the right one for you
My name is Joel and I'm from Arkansas. I'm 18 and never owned a Corvette, but a '78-'82 C3 would be my dream ride – even though my research tells me their performance is well below par.
I'm looking forward to meeting you guys and asking way too many questions!
Like you, I favour the C3 version of the Corvette. Especially those with the sugar scoop rear window. Wanting a daily driver, the owners on the C3 forum advised me to get a later model. I ended up with a 2005 and have enjoyed her for the past four months.
Make sure to get the one you want above what you need. I say this in light of your youth - there will be more Corvettes to follow in your case. Eventually, you will find your ideal Corvette.
Good Luck!

Welcome! I got my '72 when I was 15, now I'm 24. The later C3's had all of the creature comforts that the early C3's didn't have. The later C3's can be built to be quicker than factory. In 1982, the Collector's Edition had the only rear window that raised up and down like every Corvette coupe since then, and had some special wheels. You can't find many manual transmissions on late C3's, and lets be honest, you want a manual. Ripping through the gears is what just amplifies the driving experience. I say go for it, just check the C3 section for the sticky note on like the 10 things before you buy a C3.
