Default Which Vette For Me??

Hello All,

I'm a 40 year old living in Ohio and have decided I need a Vette to help get over the stuck in Ohio blues!! Lol!! Seriously though, I have come to that time in my life as so many of you have, that it's time for the ultimate mans toy. Or at least as ultimate as my pocket book will allow. I'm a couple of years away from actually purchasing my Vette, but with ALL the options I figured I had better start doing my home work now. I'm leaning towards a C6. What I don't know is do I want a Grand Sport, ZO6, Base, Targ Top, Convertable, etc. and what are the major differences between them all. What are the performance differences between a Z06 and the Grand Sport if any? Or is the Grand Sport just a cosmetic package? If I can buy a base C6 and modify it to produce the same HP as a ZO6 at a fraction of the cost of buying the ZO6, would that be a wise thing to do? Bottom line is, like anyone else I want the most bang for my buck. Open to all opinions. And thanks for your time.

Depends on you. If you are more into the performance aspect and not too focused on fancy interior, removeable roof and gadgets I would find the nicest '04 Z06 for around $25k put a good set of tires, tune and Vararam on it and call it good. Drive it awhile and decide if you want C7.

My opinion: instead of being a "couple years away".... Do something sooner, even if base C5. If u find a "deal" (off-season, motivated seller, etc), jump on it. You can likely flip it later for most of your $$ back and you'll have a better idea of what to get next: C6, Z06, GS, etc... I had S2000, then C5, now C6 - - enjoy the journey!

Thanks for the reply. When I first started looking I was only interested in the looks of the C6. Since then I've started to notice the C5's. I had thought about going with a C5 Z06 but wondered if the suspension on the C6 was much better for handling curves than the C5? I'm also not decided if I like the looks of a convertible or targa top better. C5 and C6 look much diff in both applications. Guess what I was wondering is there one that can be more easily modified for greater results than another? For instance, is the base HP of a C5 Z06 with few mods greater than what you'd get out of a base C6 with few mods? In short is the Z06 worth the extra money, or would I be better off buying a base model and putting the extra money into mods?

That's why I'm researching now. Seems there is a lot to take in to make an informed decision. Like I said in my previous posts. Sometimes there's a model of car with certain options that makes it easier to modify for greater results or doesn't need as many mods as another for the same results. I'm not one that newer is always better. A lot of times an older model with some new updates is better than the new model.

Welcome to the forum!

Take your time to learn the "ins and outs" of each particular generation you have interest in,
then make the best decision based on your wants and needs.

Good luck in your search, a lot of great models in each and every generation!

In your opinion is the 6.2 liter C6 Z06 worth the extra money? Or better to go 6.2 liter C6 with mods? Where's the money better spent would you say?

You'll have to forgive me. I'm new to this site. If by PM you mean private message, I did not get it.
