Name is Steve Young and I live in Ocala Florida. My friends call me rocket man from my motorcycle days when I would rocket past them when they least expected it and make them jump off their seat. I have long wanted to be the owner of a C2 coupe but once disposable income was available that was just too much for me. I did a search on the most powerful Corvette I could purchase for $25,000 and became the second owner of a 1991 ZR-1 in 2015. I drive her to the mountains for exercise, auto cross, and open track. She currently has 71,000 miles. I maintain and repair her myself. She is all original including the paint. My friends often think I have a modified car but all I do is stand on the throttle longer and brake later. I am not intimidated by the LT5 engine as I have learned where parts are available and often at discount prices. My interest to join Corvette forum is to search for parts and offer parts if I may have them available. The C4 Corvette offers a great performance for the buck and can be inexpensive modified. It is the last of the short wheel base drivers sports cars.
I find it incredible that 33 years ago, spring of 1989 a stock Z averaged 175 mph plus for 24 hrs. They ran 185 constantly with only race tires and 3.07 gear change. That is a testament not only to the LT five but also to the chassis dynamics and the aerodynamics of the body to be that safe for that fast for that long. Again the C4 is a lot of car yet for the dollar. And also the last ones that you can work on without having to be a computer expert. Note. That the LT five was the first engine ever in a Chevrolet with distributor less ignition. That was a big time changer.
