I'm stuck!! My engine is in a ton of pieces. I have followed the directions on ls1tech, and they worked fine removing all of the exhaust.
I'm now ready to put in the kooks, but they won't fit! I have been trying for hours to get them to fit.
Can anyone stop by and point me in the right direction? You don't have to get your hands dirty, just show me the trick to twist one of these long tubes in. Or point at what I accidently forgot to remove!
I'm completely stuck here, and well, the work week is sneeking up pretty quickly!
I live right off of County Line and Quebec, about 5 mintues from Park Meadows mall.
I heard that the dynatech and the LG's ar easier to get in. I went with the kooks mostly because of availability. Now it is very frustrating, but once I finish it, it will be VERY rewarding!
I have slid back under the car this morning, but I'll update you guys as I make progress (hopefully).
How goes it? I did a transmission tunnel brace yesterday, and after looking at it, I am thinking I might have the headers installed when I get a set. It looks like a real project.
I spent about $150 on extra tools and such that I needed.
4x4 21" lift jack and 20" stands = $75
Two 16" jack stands = $15
10mm gear wrench = $12
Two quarts of Mobile1 = $12
Socket knuckle set = $12
Deep socket set = $10
10" socket extension = $8
WD-40 = $2
I used jack stands and about every tool in my 180pc tool kit. You have to be really creative with the limited space. I still have to straighten out the exhaust tips, not a big deal, but it means getting the car back in the air.

Did you find the leak and fix it? So after all that you went through, would you do it again or have someone else do it? The one nice thing is you have all those tools now!
TJ- I found the leak (hopefully only one) and tightened the header gaskets and the ticking noise was cut in half. I will probably take it to Ed Bozarth to do a test on the exhaust just to make sure all of my bolts are tight.
The car is just wicked now. I would do it over again because I could do it in half the time. That being said, it was still a PAIN IN THE ***!
Short tempers will lead to throwing tools and towing your car to a tuner.
