How well do you get to use your Corvette in Colorado?
I'm moving to Thornton and leaning towards leaving today to stuff my C7 into our new garage. Just curious how well a sports car translates in the mountain climate?? I've lived in Kansas all of my 39 years so I know what to expect from this flat, boring, fly over state.
Would you say you get 6 months of good use out of your car? More? Less? Feels like less.
Great looking garage space! Welcome to the Centennial state. Your gonna love it here! ,While I haven't found the perfect C3 yet, the winter weather here on the western slope usually allows me many days to drive my Miata with the top down. If you like pushing that C7 to its limits, there are plenty of twisties all over the state. When you get up into the mountains, you can expect snow anytime from late September to early June.
Hey Andy. I just moved to CO from the east coast and was wondering the same thing so I'm someone asked.
So so far the driving conditions have been relatively good (compare to the east coast). I look forward to hitting up some mountain run this spring/summer. Let me know if your interested and we can gather a few more folks.
I drive all my cars year round. It's easy if you live on the front range (Ft Collins - Denver - Colorado Springs). If you live in the mountains, the snow will severely limit your driving.
This winter it's been a challenge getting the car out compared to the last two winters. Lots of snow and lots of cold. But in general, driving it here isn't bad at all. Some of the mountain passes are a riot and if you know your area, you know when and how to avoid traffic. I'm moving to Delaware in a month and hoping the traffic there isn't any worse than here. I must admit I'm very much looking forward to the 35 feet above sea level Dover registers...when I brought my first 2009 Z from Arkansas here to the Springs the power difference was depressing. It wsa still quick, but definitely lost the snap it had at the lower elevations. My current 2007 feels the same, quick, but leaving a lot on the table.

I don't have personal experiences or own a Corvette. However, many Corvette owners in Colorado enjoy driving their cars, especially in the warmer months. Colorado offers beautiful scenic routes and mountain drives that can be quite enjoyable in a Corvette. During winter, though, it might be challenging due to snow and ice, so some owners may store their cars or use them less frequently.
Good luck in Colorado. Hopefully somebody has warned you about the Wyatt's Towing Auto theft syndicate. I personally avoid that state like the plague and would never take a Corvette there. Wyatt's will seize that thing in a heartbeat.
Drive my 22 HTC any time the roads are dry (usually top down, even in winter). Am averaging 1000 miles/month and am know at 29k miles. Try Deer Creek and Clear Creek canyons (on weekdays).
While you won't be able to drive it *EVERY* day like others have mentioned, you should be able to drive it at least once every month on the Front Range
I’m in the mountains west of Denver, and I dive my C8 all year round. None the less, with bad weather, I do steal my wife’s SUV when needed. I think down in Thornton you are going to find milder weather compared to Kansas.
I was just thinking the same thing, and no one has mentioned the beyond crappy roads/repairs , or that sand (granite/diamond) after each little snow that will cause you to get a new windshield every other year if you are lucky, let alone the repaint if you can find a good shop ...Yes I have lived here for a long time 40 years, and have begun to hate it...mostly all the new drivers who don't know how to/or should not be allowed to drive
