Default Need your feedback

I just confirmed a Business trip to Washington DC on Thursday / Friday of this week, and I am wondering if I should take the vette or my daily commuter. Last month I took the vette to Albany and that was my longest trip by far. I did map quest and the trip is about 4 1/2 hours long. For those of you whom have taken your car on long trips, how was it? Is there a ferry that I could used to get there also?

BTW where are the best pubs in DC also.

Whew Washington? If you are right in Washington, I would leave the Vette at home, esp. if you are going to be parking in garages. If you are in a suburb, and can use a train or cab to get to your destinations, go for it! I am basing this experience on the Philly area, but I understand the crime in Wash. is worse.

I would leave it home. A Vette in DC is asking for trouble.

Sammy,

My first reaction: If you have to ask, leave the Vette home.

I don't know how your place works, but I'd never take my own car on a business trip. I'd rent a car, fly, or even take a train to DC.

Putting that aside:
- Do you care if anything happens to your Vette? What if something does, will the company make good?
- Is there a reason you wouldn't want to take your DD? Will it make the trip?
- Does the hotel have a secure garage? Is there a secure place at your business destination?
- Are you going to cruise around in the city? Because it's about as bad as Manhattan is to find a place to park in DC.

I've taken a personal trip down there once with the (old) Vette, but it stayed in the hotel garage until I went home. The only side trip was to the suburbs - not within the city.

Good luck with your decision,

Tom

That's a good reason to leave the Vette home.

I'm not saying someone will take a shot at you (okay, somebody might ), but it's like Manhattan.

Would you leave your Vette unattended there? Personally, I wouldn't take the risk. Granted, your car is nowhere near as nice as mine.

On the other hand, if you didn't think there was a risk, you would have just done it without even thinking about it.

As Bob Dylan used to say, "When you ain't got nothin', you ain't got nothin' to lose."

Me why would someone take a shot at me... well except for Barry (Player Hater)
I will take the Daily driver. Guess I will have to leave the driving gloves at home.
Is there a ferry I can take?

Is there a ferry I can take?

If you want to go straight there, you just hop on 95 South, and drive until you get there. Take I-695 around Baltimore, though.

If you have a lot of time on your hands, and you really need to take a ferry, you can take the way scenic route, and take the Garden State Parway to the end, and jump on the ferry at Cape May, then double back across Delaware/Maryland, past Annapolis to DC.

Try this: http://www.capemaylewesferry.com/

You need a reservation, and they tell you that you have to check in one hour in advance.

There's a million ways to get there, if you don't want to go straight there.

Hey Sammy see you at Gitmo!!

You guys are such nancys!

If you are going to worry about it all the time, don't bring it. Otherwise, take it.

Just find an indoor parking lot and you'll be fine. Any reputable parking garage deals with high end cars, and will take care of you. Your car won't get robbed/vandalized, but if you street park it, there is always a chance somebody will bump into it parallel parking.

In short: if you feel like taking the Vette and you won't spend your entire time worrying about it: take it!

The reverse happened to me there one night.

An officer, pulled me over onenight to be sure I wasn't lost. Seems I was driving in a place where short fat white people shouldn't go.

Not exactly, but I could probably tell you where there are eight White Castles within 20 miles of Times Square - including the one down the hill from my house. Murder Burgers. Depth Charges!

Sammy, remember three things when you're in the nation's capital:
1) Reasonable Suspicion
2) Probable Cause
3) Yes, Officer
