Next october when the new emissions system goes into effect pre 1996 vehicles will no longer get emissions tested. This is good news for those with big fat cams.
Got any more info of this?
Links ?????
I have to get tested next June, so it won't help me this time...
But something to look forward to ... if true.
I don't have a link so it'll be tough to "prove" until we get closer to the date and more details are released to the public. I always hate it when people post stuff and say things like "it's from a trusted source", but in this case it is from a trusted source
I'm happy because I've been in the gray sticker crowd for 10 years, at least for the years they do sniffer tests. It'll be nice to not have to pay "extra" for a sticker.
My neighbor owns a shop that does inspections. I'm going to have to see him this weekend and find out what's up. Funny thing it, my wife had a heavily modified '95 Z-28 and it was tough to get to pass emissions testing. So, that car is stock again and all of the parts are sitting in the corner to someday go into a race only car. She could have left it alone
Thats good for the older cars. The good thing is that the new cars get the plug in test which with tuning they pass easilly with the biggest Cams you can fit
My 07 is due next month. Am I gonna have problems because of the headers? I have cats on the car but I'm worried I'll get a failure. If I fail I'm taking the headers off and not dealing with the emisson BS.
If anyone knows a good shop please pm me, willing to travel to avoid inspection trouble.
If I recall correctly, the OBD II cars are the only ones to be tested. They are doing away with the "dyno type" test. The state spent hundreds of millions of dollars on the current system, it never worked out.
Now they are relying on the OBD II to do all the work. The car's computer will tell the emission's computer what all the systems are reading.
So if you have a re-tune and are out of emissions spec, then you will fail.
I found this out from a friend who is a service manager. How true it is, I do not know.

They won't put the car on the dyno, because it is so new. If you do not have any CELs then you'll be fine.

No CEL's, the tune takes care of header codes. But I'm more concerned with the tester peaking around and seeing the headers, it'll pass the OBD2 check but would fail the visual inspection if they catch the headers.

Just don't go to the dealer for a sticker. I can't remember the last time I've even seen a Vette with longtubes actually having cats

That's how it's been done in Vermont for several years now - much more sensible IMHO than all of that Dyno messing around. Works for me anyhow - the '85 is pre OBDII and therefore doesn't get Anything in the way of an "emissions" inspection on the Green Mountain side of the state line
