A friend of mine totaled his 08 over the weekend, he is fine (thank God these cars are well built). What happened to him could happen to anyone. He was enjoying a ride on the Taconic, there was a group of cars traveling in the left lane, he decided to pass them in the right lane so he punches it to clear the cars, when one of them decides to drift to the right, right in front of him. All he could do was to go right himself to avoid the car, he hit a bank and flipped the car several times. His car came to rest right side up (thank God), he unbuckeled and climbed out through the top (top was off). The seatbelt saved his life, otherwise he would have been thrown out of the car. He was brought to the hospital and was checked out, couple of scratches on his head, very lucky. He was given a ticket for speeding (no MPH though). Not preaching, just relaying a story. Be careful, you never know what that other person is going to do.

Glad he is ok. Someday folks will remember to "Drive right." (not talking about your friend, rather the folks that were in the left lane). I call them left lane lunkheads. The drive onto the highway, move over to the left lane, travle at 40MPH, and are oblivious to what is around them. IMHO, they cause the "aggressive driving" problem.
OK, off my soapbox!!

I was talking to a chick I know, early 20's....got pulled over a few friday's ago on the northern state for what she thought was dark tints. I said what were you doin? oh I was doin 55 in the left lane at 2 am. I said honey, you got stopped for dwi. NO ONE does 55 in the left lane at 2 am thats sober. Then she asks me aren't you allowed to speed in the left lane? I was like oh boy....I said no the speed limit is technically the maximum speed you're allowed to do on the road period. She said well then isn't the left lane for when you're not getting off the highway for a while? i said you took driver's ed what the hell did they teach you? its for emergency vehicles and passing other vehicles only and should be empty 95% of the time, unfortunately everyone in NY/NJ the metro area drives them wrong.
Its sad but most people on the road don't even know the rules of the road.

That's why I always say" take it to the track! The others there know what to expect. He did the right thing by "ditching" the car rather than hitting the other, if your the one speeding on a crowded highway, you have to take the responsibility of your actions.

Two biggest beefs I have with majority of drivers today is failing to keep right & failing to signal......

I agree! Don't even throw a "Yield Sign" into the mix. Almost everyone would get that question wrong.
You say what happened could happen to anyone. I disagree. I'd say it could happen only to someone that doesn't understand the danger of passing on the right. What happened was very predictable and that's why passing on the right should only be done very CAUTIOUSLY when necessary. Punching it in a vette was clearly a major mistake and your friend is very lucky he didn't kill himself or someone else.
It must be a NY thing as 90% of the time there is some a-hole doing 50 mph in the left lane with no one in front, they have NY plates. Is this something NY'ers are taught? Drive in the left lane and pretend no one else is on the road and refuse to get over? I 100% agree it is these a-holes that cause the aggressive driving. I do not understand why cops do not ticket them. I think driving in the left lane doing 50 mph with no reason to be there is worse than doing 80 mph in the left lane. If they enforced the Stay Right Pass Left Law, maybe people would get a clue.

I see it all the time, couldn't agree more. Ticket these jerks.
99% of the "Left Lane Dicks" that I see are PA drivers, especially on Rt. 78. Its maddening.
Now, now. There are alot more "dicks" out there than just the ones from Pa. I get very irritated when some ahole drags his butt in the fast lane! It ****.s me the f off!!! Move over!!! There, now I feel better.

It's actually illegal in PA to cruise in the left lane if you are not passing someone. I'd bet not one ticket has ever been issued for it.

Oh hell, We have 'em too. There are so many vehicles around here that on most multi lane roads here every lane filled to capacity with almost no car lengths between vehicles in front and to the rear of you. Other than in the dead of night (when I used to work by choice) this is the NORMAL traffic patterns in these parts, Friday and Sunday between Memorial Day and Labor Day? Fogetaboudit!! Even the dead of night looks like 3 abreast at a Nascar event. I guess "Rubbin' is Commutin'" I'm sorry to say in the Philly/South Jersey road system most times there is no right available to keep in. I liked it better back in my youth when we were hicks, I could skateboard in Rt130 in front of the gas station I hung out in as a kid. Now it's impossible to cross it as a pedestrian.
