My motto - it's never too early to plan! What are your thoughts on doing a weekend trip (or a day trip if you REALLY like to drive) to the Kancamagus Highway in the White Mountains? The scenery is beyond compare and even better it's a 28 mile road with lots of twists and hairpin turns etc.
I would be happy to look into inexpensive but nice lodgings for any that are interested. The hardest part will be coming up with a date that's good for all. Let's start with these three weekends:
June 27-28
July 18-19
July 25-26
My vote would be for June because there would be less tourists to have to pass on the highway.....
Let me know your thoughts

Reason: changed June dates
Joanne this sounds like a great idea. I think I am going to start using you as a travel agent. You can count Barbara and me in on this one and June makes the most sense. David
Joanne this is a great idea my wife and I should be able to make this. Just a suggestion maybe we could find a hotel that has a bar in it so we can enjoy the evening with out having to drive the Vetts.
I'm all for one stop shopping when it comes to a place to lay my head at night. We have plenty of time so I'll start looking around at options. My guess would be we have about a month to finalize plans.

Joanne; I'm sure Deni would love this. I hope they re-paved the road since the list time I was up there... It was so rough, I'd doubt we could keep the cars on the road at anything more than 35 mph. (it has been a while, tho') Dave
I'll have my nephew scope it out - he works at the Mount Washington Weather Observatory. As a side trip, if we all wanted to take the train to the top of Mt Washington I'm sure I could arrange a tour of the "inner sanctum". I've been told it's not to good to take the cars up and worse to come down the mountain.
As the time gets closer I'll put the dates out there for a vote. Majority rules.
Sounds like a great idea. We'll have to check the suggested weekends to see if we have any conflicts.
I did notice that the weekend of July 18th and 19th is the weekend of the American LeMans at Lime Rock Park but the Corvette Team won't be racing there this year.

I've driven up to the top of Mt. Washington and got my bumper sticker.
They had 55 gallon drums of water sitting on the side of the road to cool down your brakes (on the way down); narrow (2 cars) winding road, no guard rails and thousand foot drop. You should have good brakes, good cooling system and not be scared when looking out the side window and see no road, no guard rail and a looong way down. Reminded me alittle of my drive down the mountain into Monte Carlo.
A corvette caravan up Mt. Washington ; now that would be something.

You need to keep a "heads-up" for the people that slap bumper stickers on your car... They don't care if it's a vette or a VW. I'll talk to Deni tonight and get some feedback on this... sounds like a good time....

Years ago we took a T-Bird rental car on the road to Hana and continued around the island on the decaying dirt road carved into the edge the the mountain going around Haleakala State Park and coming out on the other side of the island. Hertz travel map said something like "don't even think about going on this road with our car." No guard rails, no pavement, breaks in the road, and in some places no road. Spectacular views thousands of feet in the air. Many places on the road were so narrow we couldn't open the doors but continued smashing the bottom of the T-Bird all the way around. The look on the faces of locals when we drove out through the cattle heards at the other end: priceless!
I think we can handle Mt. Washington.

Drums of water, are for mixing with Dewars, or your own favorite scotch...(Actually for the radiator)
I've been up and down that road with cars, box trucks, vans, and motorcycles...piece of cake.....A Corvette up Mt. Washington? not this base model.

Steve 2.5 miles of the road is gravel I'll wait at the bottom with you and sip on some Dewars with you while we wait for them to come down.
