I just hook up a battery tendered if I know it will sit for a few weeks. There are no negative impacts to the computer however it will reset the learned settings and of course you will have to set your clock.

I have never pulled the battery in either car. I just occasionally start mine up and let them get to operating temperature during the winter. If the weather nice, I'll take them out for a spin.....my cars love the cold air!!!!
Tom - Battery tender is the way to go if your car is stored someplace where you have electric. If not, start the car every week or two and let it run until everything is warmed up as stated above (thats a good idea either way.)

I don't think it would be a good idea to pull your battery. The reason is your many electrical modules will go to their defult settings, or have to be reset by you, or relearned.
Your key-off electrical drain is used by the modules to keep their memories alive. The chips that store certain settings and learned information are called KAM (keep alive memory). If you pull the battery KAM can be lost, as I stated above.
Why do this if you can hook up a battery tender and keep the battery charged and not kill KAM. Why have the car relearn settings, and you have to re-set settings, and have the car not operate as before, if this can be avoided.
Of course you can pull the battery but to me it makes no sense if you have a better alternative.....IMHO.
Also, just idling the car in the garage won't necessarily recharge a battery.....running it on the road would be best.
Use a Tender if you can. There is a company that even makes one rated for out doors.
Pulling the battery you lose your window index, no big deal. You might lose your clock and my 05 lost seat and mirror settings once, but ithat is not common (Lucky Me) Make sure you know where you key is to get in when winter over!
I would not do a start/run every few weeks its hard on the motor and it takes a LOOOOOOONG time to charge a battery!
I forgot to add I don't have power in my detached garage across the road from the house. With the 98 C5 A4 vert I just started her every two weeks or more. But with the C6 I've read some posts where there is excessive batters drain. If this is true, I really don't want to start the Silver Bullet every four to seven days.
Is there a system ( probably military ) where the battery can charge it's self. Maybe something that you plug into the cig.lighter with no external power source?
Maybe AutoBuffs has something like this.
