I'm trying to decide which to do to the garage floor. IF I paint, I'll use the epoxy paint. IF I tile, I found the Armstrong VCT that I'll do in a black and white checkerboard style. I like the tile look better but it is more $$$ and am worried that the tiles will lift in time. What would YOU DO?
Paint it with garage floor paint, then get those raised rubber interlocking tiles like they use in restaurant kitchens in a checkerboard pattern.Somebody in the C5 section had posted about the rubber flooring, it was very cool.

Motor Mat looks great until you figure the cost. It would cost me $1750
The VCT tile would cost about $400, paint about $300. $1750n is not in my budget :(
Tile would LOOK really  , but for how long??? Are you willing to allocate more time to floor maintenance?? (when unkept - they look like :U ) Even the best tile & installation is going to have various automotive fluids get in the cracks, slowly eat away at tile.....subfloor.....'what's that smell?'.....
How good are you at custom paint?? May be able to create same effect with a (safely) painted floor??? (one more thought - buy/borrow several black & white tiles.....put together in one area & stare at it for a few days - - - eye strain? clash with Rubies? rather have the Corvette 'logo' painted into floor center?? :yesnod: )

Tiles look cool but I would go with the paint and maybe have someone
do the 40th aniversary desighn on the floor for you...that would look cool also...either way though you cant loose...great job John!! :yesnod:
Tiling isn't bad, get that cheap industrial vinyl from any hardware store, white and black. It's probably really cheap, I don't know for sure though. That idea Mr. Mojo is talking about is awesome, I wish I had money for it, but in the new garage I'm going for the checkered look with vinyl tiling.
Yea that logo idea is pretty awesome and unique, try doing that. Or maybe like checkered floor, and the center with white tiles and in the white tiles a logo? I dunno this is too complicated
From: The problem is all inside your head she said to me.
Re: Tile or Paint???? (Rex Ruby)
Decisions Decisions It is hard I would like to do the same to my garage. I was thinking I would just do a "parking pad" in checker board for the vette and not the whole garage. It might be just too much for the whole garage. I don't mean $ just the look. If it looks great maybe the whole floor will get done who knows. I would think the tile would look good but either one will take a :smash: from a floor jack. I have see very good paint jobs too  This chick we know painted a whole basement and when I walked through she had totell me it was paint and not tile. I think she painted the floor then the dividing lines on top. Was really
John, I think the black and white or maybe ruby and white would look good. But instead of just checkerboard with 12 x 12 squares your garage is big enough to make the squares 4' x4' it would make the floor a little less busy and would use the same amount of tiles.
wouldnt work for me i use a torch all the time and a welder so tile and rubber is out of the question for me ..only paint.but checkerboard would be cool. :yesnod:
