There is a small problem with the automatic transmission when it is cold. While driving along and approaching a stop sign and slowing down the transmission hardshifts down, by itself, as I approach the stop. Anyone have any ideas?? This is the original transmission.
Sounds like a typical powerglide to me. Have you checked the fluid or done a tranny service?
If doing a regular trans service doesn't help at all then I would pull the valve body to see if the passages & springs & check ***** are free & clean. After that if there is still no change it could be one of the pumps?...it's been along time since and my memory stinks. Do power glides have a modulator? I can't remember!
My guess is figuring that you do trans service every two or three yrs? and that you didn't mention anything about trouble on upshifting.
If it were my car, I'd do the trans service, and while I had the pan down I'd pull the valve body right then and split it just so I could see what was going on inside it.
