I had been there for 6 hours and then I had to stand there for another hour with an hour and a half to drive home. Those auctions need to be done as a chinese auction and take care of that business before the trophies. I think most people were ticked off about the auctions. Second, you really have to park the cars in categories because it is just too difficult to chose the cars fairly. It gets too overwhelming to hunt down the different categories that are spread out over such a large area. Most people I believe, just pick the first cars they see and not bothering to look at the rest. I know people come together and want to park with each other, but if you were at Ocean City Md. Corvette weekend, you would see how easy it was to vote on cars. Please think about it and it would be alot fairer to each car owner. Glad you raised so much money. How many Vettes were registered?

Good point -- I wound up being the auctioneer for much of this. Our original plan was to have Lance do just a few big-ticket items. Then we had a run of decent gift certificates that came in last-minute. In hindsight, these should not have filled up the live auction. But, once they got past the chinese auction it would have been far worse not getting anything for them -- so there ya go. At least a few follks seemed to enjoy it

Another thought for the big-ticket items is a silent auction. I have seen this done at many charity events and the bidding can get pretty high for desirable stuff...

Personally...........I wish the whole event could be moved to the fairgrounds at Carlisle. I'd be there for sure. And so would a lot of my friends.
It's just too far away.

Couldn't have asked for a better day weather-wise! Good turn-out -- but we can do better! See link below I posted across the C-generations to share some pics from the day.

Enjoy.

Scott

great photos!

We are thrilled that you were able to be at the show yesterday and enjoyed it.
For those who have not been here this is the 5th year for the show and it benefits the Chip Miller Charitable Foundation.
Unfortunately, attendance to the show was a bit down this year compared to last year but show sponsorship was up so we were able to raise and donate $13,000 to the foundation yesterday.

Hopefully, these great pics from Scott entice a few more of you that have never been to this great show to make it out there and join us next year when we hope to break the 400 car barrier.

BTW Scott, i forgot my camera yesterday and we need good pics for the show website photo section. Anyway to get you to burn me a DVD of these photos and have you send it to me so I can use your pics on the show website?? You can contact me through the show website by clicking to email the webmaster (me).

I always enjoy the show. A great day for a great cause.

But the end was way too drawn out.

My suggestion is to have the items to be auctioned be displayed on a separate table during the day. Then have an auction, say maybe around 1 PM for only those interested. Many people had no interest in any of the items, but had to endure that long process just to get to the awards and 50/50.

With that being said, congrats again on a sucessful day.

yes, unfortunately we know the awards time was delayed longer than it should have been. Most of the reason was that this year we were using a brand new registration AND voting ballot counting system and counting the ballots took a lot longer than we had planned for. This meant that while we were still counting the ballots trying to get the final tally to determine the winners we had to extend out the auction time just so everyone gathered at the stage had SOMETHING to try to hold their interest. I know many people may not have been interested in the the auction items but it was that or staring at an stage with us having nothing ready for you in terms of the awards.
This is something we already have planned to discuss at our "wrap-up meeting in another week and we will discuss how to improve things so this doesn't happen in future shows.
please accept our apologies for the unusually long wait for the awards. next year should be better

Any thoughts on parking the cars in categories? It's just overwhelming to try to honestly pick out the right cars when they are sooooo spread out. I think most people just put down the first cars they see and that's not fair; I heard comments here and there.

Doug..Greetings!!! Thanks for coming to the show...Sure do appreciate your participation!!!!

In 2008 we did just that, we parked the Vettes by generations. ( not classes but by Gens) By doing that we had surmized that it would be much easier for everyone to choose their cars. What we heard very profoundly from day of show participants were a few things..

* Particpants wanted to park with who they may have travelled with.. If they came with a few friends with different Generation cars, they all wanted to park together. Several people became "very" upset at how we had decided to park cars that year in this fashion including one club who simply told us, "We're parking how we want"!!..

* We also were hearing comments from people who indicated they liked the cars parked by generation, but people had a tendency to simply stick with their own generation and not fill out the rest of the voting ballot...

Appreciate your thoughts Doug and we will be addressing ALL and any concerns expressed by those who attended...

Also, at the Drivers meeting we mentioned to everyone at 11:15AM that morning that "their are cars parked all over the park"..." Please take your time and take a look at all the cars before you vote". I was on stage at that time and made sure this was brought up....

You might be right though in your thoughts, but it's like that with lots of shows..people find a car they like, jot down the number....see another car they like in the same gen and class, they look at their voting sheet..they see they already have a car listed and simply dont change their number...

We feel privelaged to be able to hold this event and will absolutely provide feedback to you. Here's my email address... andyrumford@yahoo.com if you have any other thoughts on the event... thanks Doug and Happy Holidays !!

Corvette weekend in Ocean City Md. has been lining up the vettes by generations for many years and they don't seem to have a problem. I drive about 3 hours with my club members but we all split up at the show like everyone else and I've never heard anyone complain. It's just nice to have all the vettes parked in rows by generations and oh so easy to vote on. Just my 2 cents and other peoples too. I forgot one more suggestion. It was very difficult to hear you guys on the stage. Why can't they use the microphone that the DJ was using? I don't know where the DJ was, but he could stationed on the stage, couldn't he? Thanks, Doug
