The trip was long and arduous. The repair bill was expensive, the times I wished spousal abuse was legal were numerous, the roads were pretty harsh in certain states (Tennessee, WTF???). I survived though. I think I need new seats, my butt and back are sore as hell. I'd say maybe old age, but I'm only 26 so that is probably not it.

I am going to LOVE MY NEW JOB. Not going to love the drive as I am settled in Bowie, MD now in an apartment complex. Miss my garage and ability to wash my car freely. It's in dire need of a good detail. I'm pretty sure I need to have every suspension bit replaced as I entered your lovely state I hit one hell of a hole in the ground and the car feels floaty now. Probably need new tires too.

I just have one major complaint I guess since I made it here safely.

WHY IN GODS NAME IS IT SO FREAKING COLD HERE????? I am not made for this weather!!!

You think it's cold now? Wait until February, this will seem like a heat wave!!!! Temps in the single digits is not uncommon, nor is freezing rain, sleet and/or snow. Bundle up! Hope you've got a car cover for that Corvette.

Hope you got the cable/lock also. In addition to making it harder to steal, the cable/lock will also prevent the cover from blowing off in high winds.

The drive from Bowie will be a bit easier than coming from Odenton (thru the Ft. Meade area) to connect up with the BWP, unless you are working the o'dark thirty shift. Always seems to be construction south of the Ft., and the DC Beltway is never easy. I just finished 34 1/2 years of commuting from Southern PA to Ft. Meade last Friday.

sorry ... misspoke ... only the last 22 years involved the commute. Decided back in '77 when I hired on that I would never establish domicile in Md due to the rediculous piggyback tax schemes. Only downside to this was the hi mileage I put on some of my cars (one had 188K, my truck had 211K, traded my '03 CL with 221K miles, and there were 2 others in addition to my current vette and '10 TL). But when I left work in the afternoon ... I left work!

I seem to work at a good time going into work, it's leaving work that sucks LOL. Bowie is pretty nice, I have already put some distance on my car. Got here with 57K on the clock, and I'm nearing 60K already.

Yes the cable and lock are backordered though!! Still haven't got the cover in yet, I need to check with them.

Well glad you made it kinda safely. As a represenative of Maryland's Finest I encourage you to pay the rediculous rates to tag your car or look forward to seeing one of my brothers as your out of state tags stand out like a sore thumb.

Glad to see you made it safely! Keep an eye on this section for events in our area.
As for the winter months here, Maryland loves to salt the roads (whether it snows or not!! ).

Great topic! I have a similar move to make and am going through the same thought process. Anyone else have opinions about MD vs. VA? No kids to consider but taxes, safety, gun laws, etc. are important. It can't get much worse than RI though!
I was thinking of renting something relatively near a Metro stop.

Kingstowne area of Springfield Va would be my choice RIR...close to metro--easy access to 95 if needed both North and South. Nice place all around; the wife and I loved it there and you don't have to deal with MD gun laws Va seemed to a bit cheaper on taxes but everything in this area is ridiculous.

Well, they don't call us "Tax Hell Maryland" for nothing. We also have the dubious honor of being a Sanctuary State and insane overpending by those in Annapolis. Be advised that VA requires residents to pay property taxes on their vehicles where MD does not. MD makes up for that in vehicle registration fees, bi-annual vehicle emissions testings fees, tolls, high gas tax, a 6% sales tax, a 50% "piggyback tax per county" on your income tax, etc. Other than that, MD is a nice place.

When I worked at the Navy Annex, I lived in Springfield as well. I found a great older house to rent in the Brookfield Park area of Springfield not too far from Lake Accotink. Nice area with a metro station within 2-miles of the house! As for the commute, it wasn't too bad since I had several different ways of getting to/from work. They improved the Interstate connection in that area as well, it use to be real ugly!!!
