Need help with detailing products for a black convertible
*cross posted in the car care section*
I saw there's an Adam's detail clinic this Saturday at Corvette Mike's, but I won't be able to make (final Saturday before the tax deadline, and being in public accounting... ). I called a local detail shop to have them do it, and the quote included the Corvette tax. With that said, I'll commit the time to do it myself. I detailed cars many years ago so I know how involved it can get. Most of the products I used then were bought in bulk and wholesale. I have no desire to buy 5 gallon jugs of products anymore.
I do still have my older DeWalt variable speed buffer and pads, but they've seen better days. What do the detail guru's use and suggest? Zaino? Adam's? Off the shelf stuff from the local auto parts stores?
The car is black and has its fair share of swirls and water spots. The car looks fine from a few feet away. It's not show quality nor will it be, but I do want that clear, deep, glossy shine.

I would also check out www.detailedimage.com, they have everything you need, including all-in-one kits with buffer pads and polish. That's what I ended up doing. They're based in New York, so you can get your order the next day with ground shipping. They offer detailed descriptions of the products and recommend pads and buffer speed. You can also get the high end product in hobbyist sizes vs. gallon jugs,
As far as products, I a big fan of Menzerna polishes. I also HIGHLY recommend Chemical Guys Blacklight polish and V07 sealer as a topper once you've polished out the swirls.
Hope this helps and have fun!

Looks like you decided on something already.
Just my .02. :
Clay the car first and than get a Griots GG6 buffer with lake country yellow CCS pads (At least 3 as you'll switch out pads to allow them to cool after each panel) and either Menzerna FG400 or Wolfgang Uber Compound (I think these are identical polishes that finish lsp ready). This combo finishes nicely and removes most swirls and light scratches. If would try this first, but if you need to remove deeper defects than go to microfiber pads with the compound. If you want that extra pop than follow with Wolfgang Finishing glaze or Menzerna SF4500 with either white or black lake country CCS pads. Than you can top with whatever paint sealant or wax you want.

Bat, too bad that you couldn't make it to the Adams Day at Corvette Mike's last Saturday. The Adams guys totally detailed a black convertible which went from ho-hum to gorgeous! We had more than 100 Corvettes attending...great day!

I really wanted to go to that, to see their products and learn a thing or two.
