Did anyone consider a Lotus
I've seen these at Portland International Raceway and seem to be prety fast. Did you consider one when you bought your C6?

The Exige S or whatever it's called is impressive. The Elise isn't bad either nor is that new Tesla electric car that comes out of the same UK factory. Personally I think they're too small. I didn't even consider a Lotus when I researched the Vette.

Nope...about the same price and similar lap times on road courses but the similarity ends there. The Corvette may be enjoyed as a daily driver and driven long distances. The Lotus would not do either of these well. Since I plan to do both, I bought the Vette.

Porsche - Yes, Lotus - No
I have a LOT of "Car Guy" friends, most have Corvettes. Others have Vipers, MB SL500s, Porsches, Ferraris, Lambos - etc.
The one thing the Corvette guys have over all these other cars is the simplicity. You can get a Corvette worked on almost anywhere.
With a Corvette you can buy, sell or trade it almost anywhere. (Try trading an 03 Porsche Carrera (911) at your local dealer, see what kind of trade-in they offer...)
Some of these cars are faster and handle better, but not many. Then there’s the PRICE.
BTW - I didn't even come close to considering a Lotus... Porsche - Yes, Lotus - No

Had one try to keep up today on interstate. I kept it to 115 so he could keep up. It did look pretty nice in my rear view mirror though. Bad looking little toy.

I love the looks and performance. A buddy took me for a ride in his - well - butterscotch colored one. Harder to get in than my '87 Coupe.
Harsher ride than my '70 Coupe. Bounced all over the damn place...
Sheet, I think I chipped a tooth at the last off ramp...
But, it was damn quick...Cute as hell too...
Prolly a serious panty-dropper...
Spring break here I come!!!

I bought a new 2005 Lotus Elise and owned it for one year before selling it and ordering my '07 Vette.

The Lotus was an absolute blast to drive. It's not as quick as the Vette in a straight line but did handle significantly better. I was absolutely amazed at how fast that little Lotus could go around corners. It also drew a lot more attention than the Vette. In these ways I really miss the car.
But, the car was in the shop on a regular basis. No major problems, but a lot of minor ones. A lot of it had to do with the very poor build quality.
Then I got rear-ended. This was the straw that broke camels back. It was a very minor bump in rear. It caused a very small 3" crack in the rear fiberglass shell. There was no other damage to the car but this 3" crack and it took the Lotus dealership 4 1/2 months and cost $24,000 to fix. I was told by that same dealer, that also sold Corvettes, that a minor hit like that in the Vette would of cost less than $1,500 to fix. I miss the driving experience in the Lotus but it's just not worth it in my opinion. Plus the dealer network is very small. So getting service is not very convenient at all. Especially if the only local dealer available stinks.
So far, I've been very happy with my Vette. It doesn't draw anywhere near the attention as what the Lotus did but it's also not anywhere near as fragile. Also, if your Chevy dealer stinks, there's probably another one right down the street that doesn't.

I think trumpet's is the definitive response -- very nice LMB, BTW.
I did consider the Lotus and would definitely want one if I could afford a dedicated track toy 'cause it's so light light and has great suspension. And yes, the interior looks like it belongs in a dedicated track toy, too.

well I was gonna ask about a lotus as well, I think I will buy one over the c6 convertible, I am looking to get the exige S supercharged. How many of you guys have actually driven one or gotten inside one. The corvette is a fast car, looks good. I loved my C5. But, the Lotus is a race car, looks incredibly sexy, and a 70 year old can drive a corvette, but a 70 year old would need a ride along chiropractor to drive a Lotus.

Safety Car
I considered a Esprit back in 1998 (bought the Grand Sport instead). I have a friend who has the V8 Esprit (I believe he is president of the St. Louis area lotus club and does alot of HPDE's). Its a bad azz car but its definately tight inside and much more "bare bones" feeling than the vette. I think the Z06 for the money offers more car and overall more comfort and performace (better car across the entire spectrum) but its much more common, the Lotus is truely and exotic.
