Ditto... Having had 2 BMW's in the past, all I can sat is "Don't believe the hype!" My Chevy has been trouble free and much less expensive to maintain! Every scheduled service was at least $500 on the BMW's!

1/4 mile is a different story..comes down to the better driver, but the Mn6 will always have more potential since it doesn't have a torque converter.

63AMG would be pretty close in performance. But if you were skilled with the Mn6 you'd beat him.

My family has had several mercedes and we've had more problems with them than any of our GM vehicles or our Lexus. Lexus is better quality wise from what I've seen, but lexus doesn't have any real performance vehicles yet..they are working on a 600Hp sports car though I believe.

As far as peformance and luxury goes..mercedes is up there with it's $400k+ McClaren cars.

The current Road & Track has a test on the E63 Station Wagon. 0-60 in 4.1 and the 1/4 mile in 12.4.

My friend has a Lexus and the "quality" of the interior is not that much better than the Vette. His door panel leather is starting to separate from the panel and there are raised areas and bubbles everywhere. So, I am not falling for this Lexus is better, just because it is a Lexus. The nicest interiors I've seen are from Audi. Unfortunately none of their cars really do anything for me.

my ex-boss has the CLK AMG convert. It's slower, but not by too much.

The CLK doesn't even have the same engine if I remember correctly. It has much less hp than the rest of the AMG cars.

Some nutbag had his new SL65 Twin Turbo V12 parked at the Phillies game yesterday. What a great looking ride! Personally, I would never take such a nice car to a stadium parking lot.

IMO the vette will take it straight line; however the MB starts to hit higher speeds that's a different story. The quality of MB has not been declining every since they join with Diamlier/Chrysler. My dad has bought nothing but MB since the late 70's to early 90's those vehicle are built like tanks specially the diesel. It seems that the quality is not the same since an increase in production and merge.

Sorry for your friend's issues - wife and I have owned 3 Lexuses and never had an issue with quality of parts. Daughter has an RX300 with over 200K miles and two boys and it still runs like a new one.

That said - nobody is getting me away from my Vette!

I can relate to your comments. I've owned 3 different BMWs (one 3-series and two 5-series) over about a 20 year period. While I still like BMWs mine all had their fair share of mechanical problems. I used to joke when the service light came-on it blinked $500...$500...$500.

Default c6-mb

2 weeks ago there was a run on the tp with a c6 that had minor mods i think just dumps and an intake versus a stock e63, they went from a 40mph roll and the vette beat the mercedes by at least 2 car lengths up to about 140mph

but if you have $200K or so to spend on a car, maybe you've got so much $$ you don't care.

- it would be a driver's race.

My buddy has an e63 sedan (with 507hp) and it's very, very quick for a bigger car.

Great thread....
My boss has the CLS 63AMG and we attended the AMG challenge where we got to drive SLR and all the other AMG series cars (except clk black) at the Fontana raceway (oval, auto-cross, road-course) and all the AMG cars are amazing. My favorite was the CL AMG, it was the best ride of all of them.

Anyway... here in California there is no speed limit on On ramps. One day I was following him, he said he had it floored, and he couldn't pul away, and I barely pulled closer (only Vararam and Borla at the time - he removed a carbon filter in his air system [30hp gain]). We are pretty damn close to the CLS AMG63.
