Default Would you buy a VW TDI?

Since my dd integra was stolen I'm the market for a new car.
I've been thinking about getting into diesels, but I'm not sure if I trust VW electronics enough.
Would anyone here make the plunge?
Does anyone here own a TDI?

I will never buy another VW product again. Got rid of my wife's DD after only 27k miles. Took a bath. Passat.
She drives like a old lady and the damn thing fell apart. I could not even begin to tell you the crap that went.
She has the 07 Tahoe now and never looks back......

Volkswagens have poor reliability ratings, so no, I would not get one, even at a good price.

My girlfriend had a Jetta (1.8T) that was a great little car, we traded it for the SUV (Explorer which has also been a great vehicle) so we have room for gear on trips and for towing the jet skis. Only problem she ever had with the jetta was the coolant tank level sensor went bad and said it was low on coolant when it wasnt..... replaced and no more problems. I also have a good friend who has owned 3 different VW's (Jetta VR6, GTI 1.8T anniversary car which was totalled in an accident and he now has an R32) he is a service tech for a big company and has a huge territory so he does about 35K miles/year, he has had very minor issues at the most with any of the VW's he has owned, he said he would buy another in a second.

I loved our '01 GTI and would pick up a TDI if it was cost "affordable".

We have a 2005 New Beetle TDI. Very reliable, solid car so far. Volkswagen makes excellent small diesel engines. Ours is a 5-speed, gets 41 to 42mpg in the city and 49 on the highway. In winter, the mpg drops by about 10% due in part to the winter formula diesel around here being cut w/ Kerosene to lower the cloud point.

I absolutely would not hesitate to get another TDI. This Beetle she has is also quite torquey-- 177lb feet @ 2000 rpm. I know 177lb-ft sounds like peanuts when we're used to Vettes, but in the small four cylinder world of econo cars it is exceptional.

You can do a chip swap mod with a Rocket Chip Stage II and up the torque to about 230 lb-ft, but you have to upgrade the clutch because the high torque will kill the stock clutch.

No TDI's are produced for 2007 because VW is switching from a unit-injector fuel delivery system to common rail for 2008 to meet the new emission regs for diesels that are coming up. Their Pumpe Deuse system was a unit injector type, one injector per cylinder, upwards of 25,000 psi per injector.

In the diesel world, VW TDI's are very highly regarded.

TDI VW's also hold their resale value very very well.
