Default Alignment question...Saturn SL1

A friend of mine has an older Saturn (1999) and the tire salesman provided two options re: alignment: $70 for a 6-month alignment warranty or $150 for lifetime of the tires...given the age of the car and some of the roads on which he drives in W. Ft. Worth, I would be inclined to spend the extra $$ on the lifetime warranty. He puts about 20K miles on the car in a year and plans to have it for about 2 more years.

Thoughts?

How new are the tires and what type of tires are they? If they are 50,000-mile tires, are fairly new, and the alignment tends to go out every year, then the lifetime warranty may be a good deal.

However, the only time I need an alignment for my 1989 Mazda is if I change suspension components. Otherwise, I've gone 50,000 miles without an alignment. Some of my previous vehicles have gone 100,000 miles without an alignment. This is why I do not get the "lifetime" alignment deals.
