Default Tesla Electric Car

Yesterday I had the great pleasure in test driving a Tesla electric car while in California. What a nice piece of machinery this is!!!

I was on a test track and got the car up to 117. It had some very rapid acceleration capabilities and all the toys in the cockpit that makes one happy, ie nice sterio, sat nav and radio, cd player, ect.

The car has a 200 mile range and is said to go 140mph. Takes 3 hours to charge the batteries and the speedometer has a range remaining guage, all in digital format.

This car, once the price drops, will change how we Americans drive. It's a very nice car but pricey right now. Base price is $98K. I think we'll be hearing more about these types of cars in the near future as the price of gas creeps up to unacceptable levels.

It seems like the lack of noise from the motor (s?) would change the experience a lot. Maybe make it more like sailing?

The 200-mile range could probably be worked out if you're using this as a local (commuter/toy) car only, but I wouldn't want to take a 500-mile trip and add in 6-9 hours worth of charging time each way.

What a great commuter car that would be! Still, you can buy a 1-man helicopter for half that price!

Electric cars with this powerful a motor are definitely not quiet. Imagine the sound of a laser printer engine x50. Sounds like a jet engine spooling up. Way cooler than any piston motor.

Our RX400h pumps up to 200 kilowatts of electric boost when I stomp on the pedal and believe me, it's not quiet. However, cruising at 30 mph is another story - very serene.
