My wife's 08 Hylander has 36,000 miles on it and her trips to the store parking lots have not been kind to it. She said that she was ready for a car this time.
We took the title and checkbook to 6 dealers in four counties 7 cities. My intention was to go GM. I had a real bad experience. There are big incentives out there but the dealer have a new trick. I always go prepared with research on the trade in valve. The dealers now said they use recent auction sales and not the nationwide prices based on trades.
WTF! auctions are were many distressed dealer dispose of excess inventory and the used car lot guys make low ball bids. How many 08 Hylander Limiteds are at the auctions.
They all made very low offers. So. back to the Toyota dealer where I made a straight across trade for a Camry ES. That is the one with the sports suspension, ground effects package, front and rear sway bars, and larger disks. The ES is to Camry what the Z51 is to Vette.
It is an 010 because Camry came out with them early this year. That is why there was 36K on the 08 SUV because I got it about this time in 07.

Thanks!You made me laugh tonight! Glad you found a deal somewhere,but in the real world KBB and all the rest are just guides.Auction prices are more real world!36k on an 08 is tremendously high mileage which detracts alot on resale!

Auction prices are nothing new. When I bought my vette in 06 the dealer showed me the current auction prices for the car I was trading in. What they do is either add to the trade in value or deduct from the msrp. Whichever they think will make you happier.
The auction they use will also effect the value. Possibly by a couple thousand.

When I traded my 02 C5 for my 08 Vert the dealer used the local auction price for my trade in value. It turned out to be the highest offer I received from several other dealers.
