Corvette powered Porsche 914
I've been thinking of building or buying a high mpg fun sportscar
Thought of building a low weight high mpg C6: too much $
an old Honda Insight : Too slow & nerdy
2010 Honda CRZ sports hybrid : too long to wait & probably too heavy & slow
My mind always came back to the Porsche 914. One of the best sports car chassis of the 20th C.
I think I now found a roller in great shape w tons of race goodies for very little $
I was thinking of dropping in a 1.9L VW turbo diesel so I could run it on biodiesel but 200hp just isn't enough
so what do we need ? MORE POWER, R,R,R,R
This 914 is all set up for a chevy V8 to slide right in
Seeing as a base C6 weighs around 3200 w 400 hp so that works out to a power to weight ratio of 8# for every hp
Now add a 914 chassis and remove 1000# and the 8 to 1 becomes a much more interesting 5.5 to 1. Thats better than a Z06's 6 to 1
The beauty part is I could probably see 35 mpg Hwy
I imagine about $25k to build, probably cheaper than a new 2010 Honda CRZ and A LOT faster
of course if I got a good deal on an LS7...

Sounds like a cool idea..
Will the chassis flex or can it handle all the power and weight?
Good luck
