Default Why would anyone get this car?

The 2010 Hennessey Camaro was challenged by the 2009 ZR1 in the latest Road & Track:

The ZR1 destroyed it in every aspect, including price.

http://www.roadandtrack.com/tests/ca...-hpe700-camaro

Why would anyone buy a more expensive car (Camaro), that is slower, doesn't handle as well, doesn't stop as well, gets worse gas mileage, doesn't MPH as high, etc?

I just don't get the whole Camaro thing?!?!?!

Here is the comparison data:

725 horsepower, $125,000...all for 4.1 sec 0-60 ?

When Camaro owners see that, they are going to think they got ripped off by Hennessey worse than the Viper owners got ripped.....

A bone stock LS3 will hit 0-60 in 4.1 seconds

You're right. Camaro's are great cars, but they are not even close to being in the same class as Corvette's. Period.

The only advantage is a back seat. But you can get a lot of hotel rooms for the price difference.

725HP, 0-60, 4.1 seconds ?? Thats traction issue. Once those tires hook up, look out..

You're right, that's crap! With that much HP in the Vette, one should do a 0-60 in about 3.5 seconds.....race is over before it even starts.

Probably because they already have a ZR1 and some other cars, and want the baddest Camaro in town too. But they don't have the skill or connections to build it themselves or have a good local tuner build it.

...maybe they like that 1965 dodge dart dashboard (instrument panel) in the new Camaro?!? Actually, I do like the small engine gauges on the console...very 1969ish

That is the problem with those type of cars. Dropping in a powerful motor into a car without addressing traction, handling, braking, power/weight ratio, overall design, strength of components, etc., is POOR ENGINEERING.

Putting in a high HP engine into a car is something most backyard mechanics can do. It takes engineering to design a well-built car.

The launch and the 0-60 tell it all. If you look at the trap of 125 that tells you that the car is capable of mid to low 11's but...............................for that kinda money I would expect alot more. You can achieve low 11's in a Camaro for a hell of alot less money.

Read the article a bit further and you will see that our LS9 Camaro run almost 129 mph in the 1/4 mile on drag radials. From a roll this car is faster than a stock ZR1 and it weighs about 700 lbs more.

We have sold nearly the entire run of 24 cars.

From a roll?

I did read the entire article. The article stated that even with the improved & stronger clutch and street-legal Nitto drag radials fitted to the car, the Hennessey Camaro posted an 11.7 at 128.6 mph.

The ZR1 in the quarter-mile flashes by in just 11.2 at 130.5 mph.

The ZR1 beats the HPE by 1/2 second.

The ZR1 can attain a 1.10g in lateral acceleration. The HPE700 Camaro attains a 0.92g

The ZR1 gets a braking performance from 60-0MPH in 106 feet while the HPE700 Camaro is in 116 feet.

As I was pointing out, the ZR1 vs. HPE700 Camaro:

ZR1 WINS in all categories:
*ZR1 is faster
*ZR1 has better braking
*ZR1 accelerates faster
*ZR1 handles better
*ZR1 gets better MPG
*ZR1 costs less
*ZR1 gets a higher top speed
*ZR1 comes with a 5 year/100,000 mile warranty
*ZR1 costs $30K less than the HPE Camaro

129 in the 1/4 is strong..... Correct me if im wrong but that seems like the camaro is catching the zr1. Id be interested to see maybe a 150mph comparo or even higher?

Considering the barndoor aerodynamics, I wouldn't count on the Camaro catching the ZR-1 at high speed, not with a mere 725 HP at least.

Plus I would not want to be in a stupid Camaro doing 150MPH, with its 4x4 suspension, and front heavy engine/trans setup.

A 2010 Camaro SS = $30K
A 2010 HPE700 Camaro = $130K+

As I said, sticking a high-HP motor into a Camaro does not make the HPE Camaro better than a ZR1. In fact, the ZR1 destroys the HPE Camaro in all areas and even costs less. Plus, GM gives me a 6 year/100,000 mile warranty on the powertrain.

A $100,000 for an engine upgrade, cosmetic and some brake upgrades?

One thing is for certain, if you made Jay Leno's salary (and already have a ZR1), that $130K is pocket change.

The ZR1 destroys any Aston Martin, but plenty of rich folks buy them. Why not attack those people as well?

My point is that Hennessey found a market and made some good money. That's business, folks!
