Is the Acura NSX Doomed?
This morning I got a bit of breaking news in my inbox. I received spy shots of a Char-Broiled Acura NSX prototype at the Nürburgring. I, along with a sizeable contingent of Corvette Forum members, admire the Honda/Acura NSX.
The original remains one of my all-time favorite sports cars, so seeing a next-gen NSX getting dialed in at the 'Ring all this week filled me with excitement ... until this morning when I saw the car burnt to the ground.

I love the original but could not care less about the new one. Bigger, heavier, cushier, AWD, automatic full of computers driving the car for you?
That car already exists, it's called Nissan GT-R and it's a remarkable feat of engineering but not an engaging vehicle to drive. I'd rather save $100k and buy a PlayStation 4 than buy a GT-R or new NSX.

I would hope that the NSX is not scrapped. I've been anticipating the new release for quite some time...and with the time and money invested, it would be a waste if Honda gave up now.

Firstly, it was Honda who built the NSX, not Nissan. It was considered a step above anything out there for performance, reliability, build quality, technology and at a price that the "exotics" could not touch.
Secondly, they beat the hell out of Ferrari forcing them to completely rethink the way they build sports cars. The NSX pretty well was responsible for turning the Ferrari 348 into the automotive laughing stock back then. Ferrari had to think quick and thus came up with the completely redesigned 355, which was an enormous step up from the 348.

Times have changed. All super cars are beginning to resemble each other and use the same recipe as far as incorporating hybrid technologies and flappy paddle trannies. Nothing ground breaking. Seriously, how much horsepower do you really need?
What really made the original NSX memorable was the fact that it was so different and a first for a Japanese brand.
I'd grab an original NSX in a heartbeat if the condition and price was right. It's definitely a classic that will just appreciate in value.
