One Less Corvette Rival? Is the Acura NSX Doomed?

Honda-NSX Fire Home

This morning I got a bit of breaking news in my inbox. I received spy shots of a Char-Broiled Acura NSX prototype at the Nürburgring. I, along with a sizeable contingent of Corvette Forum members, admire the Honda/Acura NSX.

“ASIMO make sad fluid now.”

The original remains one of my all-time favorite sports cars, so seeing a next-gen NSX getting dialed in at the ‘Ring all this week filled me with excitement … until this morning when I saw the car burnt to the ground.

At this point, it feels like the next NSX has been in development since the days of six-banger Corvettes, and now this Nürburgring test mule decides to go all carbon on us. Granted, a lot of developing sports cars have gone up in flames at the Green Hell, but this isn’t a good sign for the NSX program.

If the Acura NSX does ever make it to production, it will be built in Ohio — the same state where it is being engineered. In many ways the NSX will be America’s next sports car, and a welcome Corvette competitor … if it ever sees the light of day.

What do you think? Is the NSX doomed to remain on the drawing board forever?
