Battery Technology
Every day, it seems, we're seeing new ideas in battery technology. The latest thing I've seen is car batteries that are 1/3 the cost of current li-ion type, with charging times as short as 5-6 minutes and ranges of up to 500 miles between charging, and this mass production is about 5 years away, or less. This is revolutionary.
What does this mean for the future of gasoline-powered vehicles? What does it mean for the collectible car market which is essentially gasoline-powered? Will the cost of gasoline go up or down since lower demand will mean less petroleum production volume which affects per-unit cost? What about the current number of petroleum service stations we have in this country, and around the world for that matter? How many stations and oil companies will get out of the business? How far will gasoline-powered vehicles have to travel to get to the next gas station? If this technology is made available in the near future the gasoline-powered automobile could become obsolete just about overnight with the ability of mass production of this battery technology being the only limiting factor. How will electric vehicles be taxed so as to maintain our highway system? Will each home/office/public charging location have a separate power company meter in order to have a taxing system? These new batteries appear to use very common materials so availability of raw materials is not a factor.

There's a big difference between claims and reality. The eV industry is big on claims, and lacking in delivered results
You have to take that industry with a heaping of salt. Lots of venture capitalists that want to make money at your expense.
